What he say ? he work for young Turks
I doubt he would be openly racist
this is big isn't he a democrat how could he be racist energy lmao dude we can't evaluate people, especially white people (in regards to racial issues), on their membership in organizations we need to evaluate them based on their actions especially recent ones
also history and membership doesn't mean anything look up Bayard Rustin
Being forced to assimilate to western culture isn’t the same as appropriating Destiny is a f***in moron
I think you got him mixed up with Hasan who worked at Young Turks
You right I got all those YouTubers mixed up wit each other
their friends tho so I was close
Idk about jazz but I really never heard any classical music influence outside of a sample in hip hop

there's a concerted effort to quiet any real allegations of cultural appropriation by saying "everyone steals from each other", when clearly in the western world it's black culture (and broadly, poc) that get stolen from and don't see the fruits of their labor and foundations while the appropriators gain all the clout, and more importantly, the $$$
I think there are also good examples of culture being integrated into another culture vs just being used for profit with no regard for the history
also by doing this they try to erase/rewrite rap music's roots and history effectively, as if there isn't a rich tradition of black music in america that comes from slaves and hymns (that comes from africa)... rap music is specifically black music that comes from a black (and working class) context!
not to say anyone can't make it or you gotta be one of those things, obviously i'm literally a brown rapper, but objectively that's where it comes from whether you mean the roots pre rap music or the inception of rap music in the bronx
I’m doing a dive into the history
Just to find out the first recorded jazz song was by these white guys
99% copied is insane considering that there are west african musical genres predating colonialism that show clear lineage to african American musical genres
Especially rhythmically

Yeah the use of complex rhythms and polyrhythms from West Africa is an inherent part of spirituals and work songs which inspired blues and so on
Also the “call and response” pattern of blues comes from music of Africa too
stop listening to youtubers

i don't disagree it's just about (as cliche and tumblr-y as i may sound) showing respect for the culture and being aware of your privilege. you can't change your color or privilege in life, and that's ok, but are you willing to use it to shine a light on those who don't have it? are you willing to use it to give back MATERIALLY to those who don't have it? i think if you can do those things and know/respect the history of the genre and the culture, you'll be fine and be more than accepted
jack harlow makes very white music and i'm not gonna pretend like i listen honestly, but he at least clearly cares about rap music even if its bare minimum s*** and so no one gets upset at him for that because its genuine.
people have a problem with those dipping their toe in rap music only when they show they don't care and are there for nothing but profit. i also don't listen to eminem but no one really gets mad at eminem or sees him as a vulture

!!!!!!! yup
and those slave hymns and such that inspired and eventually indirectly lead to rap music intrinsically have the rhythmic dna of the african cultures the first slaves were part of before being kidnapped

Bozo thinks cus they use instruments popularized in europe that the genre becomes 99% classical European when the actual innate qualities of the music are unique to the culture
Horrible take

i’m pretty sure i’ve seen clips from his streams of him saying some weird stuff

This take has the same energy as those white YouTubers that would use the n word cause otherwise they’d be “giving the word more power”
