Only problem, wasn't any modern day rap

I think what the soul of the 70s is the rap of 90s-00s

the soul of the 70s is the rap of 90s-00s

I don't miss white bois gushing about Tool's complex arrangements on their songs but other than that, agreed.

    System of a Down
    Indie scene was robust
Rap scene was varied, in an era where biting was looked at crazy

  • That being said, nothing beats the 70's for me personally

  • Oct 21, 2024

Reach wise yes. Because you had brands using Hip Hop for marketing and Rappers reaching superstar status.

Quality wise it's 90s all day tho.

Is technology objectively better now? Yes. But as somebody born in 93 it was glorious to start from almost nothing and see where we are today. Feel like it gives me an appreciation for the tech we have now that a lot of kids born post 2000 don’t have

  • Oct 21, 2024

I love all decades but no time would've been more exciting than mid to late 60s when studio technology made massive leaps into modernization, Bob Dylan blew the doors open for lyrical expression and wicked new d**** made the creative possibilities seem endless. And due to the post war baby boom and economic stability in the 50s/early 60s you probably definitely had more kids forming garage bands than any other time so the competition was tough and you had to be very fkn tight.

I don't remember anybody talking about Tool but System were dope. I was already diving into the dust but White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, MGMT etc made it feel very much like our generation was having our own classic era for rock and roll era as well. Didn't realize it was like the last gasp of the genres domination

Having a gameboy and playing pokemon made 90s kids happier than a today's kid playing gta5 on the best computer or something. It was special and amazing

todays kids too fed up with technology

playing pokemon on a ds lite was prime childhood

Damn thats a really bad opinion

it was better looking back than when we were living it (typical) but it was a lot of good contemporary s*** to hold us over too. after all is said and done there were no bad decades in american music because thats not how the industry sustains itself

it has some of my fav albums of all time some even like top 10 such as Late Registration & Lyfe 268‒192 etc. but overall it falls short

especially in rap to me, although again the highs are high

very underrated era, especially in rap. really set the groundwork for hip hop to dominate in the 2010s
