To the extent that Bernie and Bloomberg were attackable, it was because they are/were seen as interlopers in the party ("Bernie's not even a Democrat!" "Bloomberg was a Republican!"); Biden is the quintessential Democrat politician and essentially a stand-in for the last forty-eight years of the party. Peep how everyone was like "Why is he so mean to him??" when Julian Castro tried to go at Biden in one of the summer debates over allegedly forgetting what he was talking about. And Julian is also the picture of a Party Man.

You're right that Bernie will lose because he isn't capable of attacking candidates, but it's less a personal issue and more a structural one. With that being said, I agree it's not productive to be like "Joe Biden is my friend, and definitely not corrupt," but going scorched Earth doesn't really win over anyone who's not already fed up with "the Establishment."
