except those people you named didnt go viral/get stardom when they was imitating lol.
Which was Andre's whole point
Respect to andre 3k, but this "hip-hop is dead" narrative and anything adjacent to that has been around since the late 90s and 2000s. Just because rap doesnt adhere to the styles of past decades doesnt mean its something to cry about. The youth will always reinvent genres in ways that older generations might not be accustomed to or will appreciate. But in another decade it'll evolve and change again and a portion of the generation that came before that will cry about that too. Sure, we're in an unprecedented age of algorithms and new forms of technology that give rise to new artists but the masses will get behind whatever they want to. Todays climate makes it so the party rapper can be just as successful as the lyrical rapper or the alternative rapper. Just choose what you want to listen to and support that, its not that hard. This gatekeepy mentality of how "hip-hop" SHOULD sound is some lame ass s***. Maybe talk about how artists should get paid more for their music and how streaming has f***ed up the music industry more than any artist that you dont agree with or like.
Thats not what Andre was saying at all smh.
I think it’s less about not accepting a “new style of rap” now (back then ppl like Nas were just hating on Southern rappers like Wayne and then the phrase caught on)
now it’s more about feeling like you’ve heard 100 of the same song because copying is at an all time high
I like to believe that rap and i guess music in general will always "correct" itself. 100 people making the same type of sound will ultimately not be sustainable because listeners will get bored of the sound quickly and will naturally gravitate to who does it best or who evolves first from it. I feel like at the end of the day authenticity and being unique will always rise above those who are trying to mimic a sound to get on. But the music landscape these days isnt like the industry back then in that instead of having many big mainstream artists youll only have a handful but youll have a lot of moderately sized niche circles who offer a certain sound or style. I think people who think lot of rap sounds the same need to broaden their horizons more cause i can name plenty whos sounds dont sound alike. There will always be trends and people that chase them but i dont think that should be misconstrued for "everyone sounds the same".
Everything his name is attached to is s***. He's helping to cook this s*** more than anyone else.
monkey see, monkey do ass niggas i swear
Wym bro?
what he means is that he’s personally offended by that post since he’s a fan
has nothing to do with people jumping on a bandwagon

Say less lol
Wym bro?
yachty isnt a generational artist but the way this site piles on him while simultaneously hyping up other artists in his age range that barely make good music is just insane to me
look at me enjoying music, you should try it some time
i’m not contributing anything of substance to whatever this is, you can feel free to reply though if it makes you feel better

this is exactly what i expect a lame to say after taking time to screenshot my posts

My bad i got off on a tangent there, but I think generalisations like this in rap are generally untrue. There will always be a trendy sound that encapsulates contemporary rap and hip-hop for that specific time. One thing that often isnt addressed is that listeners act as a check and balance. So if rappers are all truly sounding alike, as I said in a previous comment, it will correct itself and listeners will find themselves gravitating to someone who's doing it best or someone else will evolve that sound or introduce a new one completely that changes the status quo. I feel like there will always be artists that continue to try new things and there will be listeners that drive that change by supporting them. I think we only perceive "everyone sounds the same" because like what andre has touched on is that everyone can participate thus the visibility of rappers or musicians chasing a trendy sound is much more apparent than before and because theyre following a wave theyre more likely to be visible while that sound is hot but they will lack the longevity when a new wave comes along so i wouldn't say it's anything to worry about.
I can respect why he doesn't release a solo album because he has nothing significant to rap/talk about at this stage in his life
You don't think someone of his stature and with his experience in the game (and life in general) has anything interesting to say?

Fam he literally just admitted in an interview that he has nothing interesting to rap about currently in his life right now that's why he doesn't want to release a solo rap album lol

I think he's selling himself short.
