Yeah bro I saw this one, and once I saw the negative comments about Doggystyle I realized I had other things I could do instead

What a bad thread

You got rappers like Floppurp doing whippets less than 3 years after he blew up
Meanwhile Andre 3k still got people waiting on a solo album and is regarded as one of the goats
Exactly man. These artists have to rely on social media controversy now to stay relevant and most of the time they still can't manage.
Yet 25 years later people are still talking about biggie vs. Pac
OP seriously has no idea wtf hes talking about
Complete opposite. The most timeless era of hip hop. A bunch of 90s classics charting higher than Yall faves in billboard 200 too
The fact that this was considered top tier music automatically disqualifies the 90s from being the worst aging decade

Just say u wasn’t outside as a kid
Timeless music
Crazy thing is now even the female rappers are covering these songs and making them huge on tik tok
Yet these zoomers still want to hate on the 90's
You can’t tell me s*** from 95-99 sounds dated, sure 90-94, but that Bad Boys era and the rise of Soulaquarians and all the other s***, cmon
I was 4 when this came out
Dude this song was still being played for years after it came out
I was 4 when this came out
I’m younger than u and I’ve heard this on the radio as a kid
Classic song tbh
idk i feel like the issue in this particular case is people just wanting to rush to be offended. i'm not sure but all it seemed like OP was saying is that 90's rap sounds very much of its time. it doesn't have the most positive connotation but it can warrant an honest discussion rather than inflammatory bs.
like if a 90s rap song you didn't know came on in a playlist or on the radio you could probably guess right away. but going back to OP's example, 70s disco might hold more influence over the music of today so you may not be able to place it as easily.
if anything, it made me think about how hip-hop has always been an evolving genre and the different sounds it has gone through. we'll be saying the same thing about the "trap" era we're in. yeah music being dated can suggest it didn't stand the test of time but we know that isn't always true. so why can't we point out how distinct the different eras of hip-hop have been, and how it dates them?
TLDR: get out of y'all damn feelings all the time. lol

Early 90's rap is too underrated

I mean yeah, but still in the grand scheme of things it sounds dated

Dated doesn't mean bad to me so I don't mind

Some of it like Nas (illmatic in 1994) and Tribe in 1993 don't sound bad at all
