i feel like i’ve been screaming this for a minute. hiphop would’ve fully been written off this year if it wasn’t for the drake & kendrick beef. but currently if you’re TRULY a famous rapper, you’ll be fine. but the new upcoming rapper has no chance. tbh i think the 2020s is the FINAL decade for hiphop

This is the exact sentiment that got rock killed lol
Just because hiphop isn’t dominating corporate charts and getting raped by labels doesn’t mean it’s dead
Hiphop is more independent than ever. Something far better can be born
music and art is fine, especially if dark times are to come because humans will always find a way to express themselves
I think a widespread newer model of payment and support from fans will come along that will balance the ecosystem and change how fans will interact with music bc everything is too easily accessible
Just got layed off damn

I think the way everything is going in the world will push rap to be a better genre and more creative genre again. I’ve been saying this for a while, it feels like we are in the times before the 2010’s before everything got exciting again

What's crazier is that people clowned Drake for "flopping" with his post beef tracks and Kanye for going 107k with the deluxe but the newer rappers ain't even doing better than them. I've seen some people claim that Eminem's album "came and went" too.
It's to the point where we literally hold the OG's to higher commercial standards than the newer guard. S*** is backwards af because, when I was growing up, it was literally the other way around.
Nobody was expecting LL Cool J to compete with 50 Cent in the mid 2000's or DMX to compete with Meek Mill in the early 2010's but we still expecting the old guard to carry the genre like it's the 2000's and 2010's in 2024 lol.
