Do you actually seriously think the people in charge of all this s*** give a f*** about average every day people...?

no and you seem to keep failing to realize that is exactly why it’s all gonna crash cause they need the regular people to keep it sustainable and we’re already due for an incoming energy crisis

energy they need to power those same facilities that they just roundabout built with money from other sales and purchases…not actual profit or risky investment that blew up like uber…no just the same money exchanging hands from selling assets and acquiring other growing assets (only in valuation…not profit) that are also sold

miss me with thinking this s*** gonna change our lives. they over invested and gonna fail

The best available data shows only about 36% of U.S. adults had ever used a ride-hailing service like Uber or Lyft in the Pew survey cited.

The majority of Americans are not using rideshare lol.

I'm talking about food delivery apps + rideshare. almost everyone uses this s*** regularly these days, not every day obviously, but regularly

I’ve noticed lot of big chain stores like will play AI music, probably to avoid paying license fees. Noticed it especially during Christmas few months ago. All this fake holiday music

youtube is also completely full of it

We talking bout real creativity and music.

Of course it's gonna be used for back end data stuff, run of the mill ads, weird deep fakes/memes and dumb f***s that can't write a paragraph in under a minute. Appeasing and the removal of process is the only thing it can do.

Sidenote: you know it's fake innovation when it's mostly elderly people that think it's cool lmfao. Younger Gen just use it as meme creation and to get away from doing real work

I don't think AI music is good or that there will ever be a popular AI artist. You're giving the average listener too much credit. Music consumption is largely passive and driven by algorithms; as long as whatever song Spotify spits out isn't complete abrasive garbage, most people won't skip it. To them, it’s just background noise while they do other s***. An AI song last year had enough streams crack the Top 40, but Billboard withheld it from the charts.

Are you guys just young or something? Do you remember when Uber was having major pushback because they weren't profitable for like 10 years? Now look lmao, theyre a part of every day life for the majority of americans.

OpenAI's plan was to spend $1.2 TRILLION dollars in 6 years on infrastructure, do you not understand how insane that is? Even if they spend $400b, 1/3rd, do you understand how much that is? New York City spends $20b a year on infrastructure...

Yeah rideshare services subsidize most of their costs to the employee and consumer, a fundamentally different business model than AI.

They also have some of the most exploitative legal “gig” jobs one can have, relying often on illegal workers or the most destitute of the population.

You can’t even compare it to Ai

And the point isn’t that no productivity will come from it, or that some profits will be made, it’s the fact that between that hypothetical end goal that capitalists and other AI shills talk about, is the massive displacement of jobs as people are laid off, the dissolution of failed businesses which in turn lead to more lay offs, decrease investments, etc- and that’s not even getting into the other areas of the stock market and economy that most of the big investors are also tied up in

I know it probably has to do with current ownership and government systems, but why are there no leftists that see an optimistic view of AI?

Communism probably couldn’t work without a system for coordinating production, distribution, and social need.

It feels like there’s 2 options, keep progressing or go back to before the Industrial Revolution

There should be a leftist candidate who says we need to reorganize ownership of AI so its productivity solely serves humanity. I doubt that would happen nor would anyone vote for him unfortunately

The issue with AI music isn’t that people want to listen to it

it’s that people don’t even know they are listening to it, are incapable of telling the difference, and don’t actually care enough about the issue to make changes to their consumption habits

This is not just an issue of interest/demand - it's actually f***ing impossible to run all of the planned data centers without crashing the power grid.

The AI gold rush was not well planned

While there isn’t a uniform answer on AI, the criticisms most communist have is over ownership and if the benefits are being largely distributed socially or privately-

Also combating extreme doom and gloom or utopia scenarios in both direction that stem from commodity fetishism and a poor understanding of capital relations (like for instance the common myth that AI could potentially replace even a majority of jobs and that itself will lead to immoderation)

    I think it’s a common trope/misunderstanding that Marx or marxists were anti-technology

  • mangotflu

Being profitable doesn't mean much at all sadly. Anthropic has gone from $7b yearly revenue to $30b in just 8 months. That's all that matters.

The valuations are mispriced. You have to give it another year according to Howard Marks

youtube is also completely full of it

This seems lesser of 2 evils to me (the other evil being copyright laws)

    Yeah I agree Marx wasn’t anti-technology

It’s just unfortunate the left and democrats seem to have no control or even messaging around tech today. It’s all anti-tech now. I think there’s a real potential of advocating for the control of technology away from authoritarianism, monopolies, and private capital, rather than just rejecting the technology.

Right now the only vision for it is coming from Silicon Valley libertarians.

There's something in the human soul that connects to another soul's creation and art ,

its like if u have s***with an artificial woman that feels better than a real woman "Scientifically" , you still wouldn't like it the same unless you're an absolute psycho
