Neil knows
Essentially, they are assuming that the series will be made to pander to the left (with super awesome, single, warrior Galadriel, and the actors shoe-horning activism into everything).
I don't agree with them and think that they're being children, but let's not misrepresent their arguments.
This is a GOAT cosign.
Nah, G.
This is a stupid ass statement. I don't agree with them and think they're being overly nitpicky but their protests have mostly revolved around the show not being accurate to the lore, the "modernization" of the themes which Tolkien was explicitly against, and certain casting decisions (like Numenoreans being Black, which I think is fine), and timeline issues.
There’s definitely a lot of racist s*** going on with the reaction since day one though which you basically admit. Problems with “modernization”, casting choices, going too “PC”/“pandering to the left” etc are all obvious examples. It not being lore accurate is a separate argument in its own

Yeah, it's definitely racist undertones to a significant amount of the criticism, but I don't agree that the pushback against attempts at modernization is unfounded.
Tolkien explicitly stated that he was against allegory and that his work wasn't allegorical, and tbqfh, I'm tired of being pandered to and preached at

I think alot of the tenets of the true thorough fantasy world building will be gone which is the main reason I love his work & the books. It definitely feels like a very selective repurposing of his ideas into this super high budget production where everything is grand and epic and cinematic like Game of Thrones but ends up feeling sterile cus it’s so detached. It’s weird how much the marketing is emphasizing how big budget and huge and dramatic it is over the actual story content and characters, especially cus they have so little actual rights and are making so much of it up themselves. I feel like Jackson’s original movies work so well cus they stayed so true to the spirit and heart of that Tolkien lens of fantasy & lore even when they took their own creative liberties to make them blockbusters (which were pretty often lmao). Fellowship of the Ring especially really actually feels like the first two books in tone, heart, understanding of the story and characters, everything. So it’s definitely a high bar to reach
But I can’t really cast judgement like this until I see it myself and I would love to be wrong and love it. The level of vitriolic racism though is serious. I don’t think having the rights to the lore matters to these sort of people at all and a lot of these casting/modernization arguments are a vehicle for not wanting nonwhite people in their Lord of the Rings world. Nobody had a moral problem with those mediocre at best Hobbit movies like they do here before they’ve actually seen anything yet

Almost everything you've said is facts, but LOTR nerds were pretty vocal about The Hobbits not being as good as the main trilogy.

Oh I know, I just mean they didn’t have a moral problem with them breaking identity/lore with those films hard. I know it wasn’t really Jackson’s fault cus he was barely involved & it had a weird production but they barely feel like Tolkien at all and closely resemble a lot of the problems this seems to have with emphasizing big budget action blockbuster CGI adventure over staying true to the original heart & tone of the story. You can argue that’s worse in a way too cus they did have all the rights and weren’t just making s*** up

Yeah, you're right. Personally, I agree with you when you say that we should react after we've watched it and not before.
So, yeah, I'll wait to see how it turns out.

I think her video pretty well covers why Tolkien fans are concerned about the series
!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mzrcepb8rgUVery good video
This is getting great reactions. We’re blessed to be getting this and GOT at the same time
Interesting..
I hope it’s a success. Amazon has provided some good content and been willing to spend
Don't loser LOTR virgin nerds hate this?
They hate everything that isnt the books
Damn that's a reliable cosign
The god awfully written dwarf on elf romance they added to the hobbit movies is what has me worried about this lmao. Supposedly badass elf warrior chick falls in love the instant some strangely and conveniently tall dwarf asks her to search his trousers for weapons

They all in its literally the most expensive show of all time lol alot riding on this
Dudes calling it rushed without seeing it
This thread is a bummer man. Reminding me why I stay off the internet in 2022
Rematched the trilogy and currently reading Two Towers in anticipation

The Hobbit trilogy isn't good? Damn. I was hoping to watch it
