big data roles been the new hot career for like two years now I'd say.
Really?
The big thing I saw being pushed was web dev. And now it’s this .
I just don’t really know how hard I want to pursue this if it’s being pushed for like 2 years already.
Why is this suddenly being marketed so much, and don't say because of the google cert.
Theres more data points in the last 2 years than in all of human history before it or some crazy stat like that

really you should go for computer science as undergrad and then work into data science afterwards once you understand the fundamentals of programming and logic and s***.

I tried Cs , and my colleges program just wasn’t good enough, no support group. I kept on self studying code on the side though.
And now it looks like data science is being pushed as a easy alternate path to take
signed up for the google course

I signed up too.
How do you feel about so many people from other Countries taking this course?

Nah whatever I can find to be honest
might switch my major to data science, im over engineering
i got a job for this fall which involves engineering and a lot of data a***ysis so that should help me decide
So I’m going to be starting data a***ytics apprenticeship next year and hopefully it will get me into the field
Data science is kinda of a meme these days tbh
Mad over saturated with underqualified candiates, but if you have the tech skills then the money is there
what’s the salary band for this?
im studying informatics (basically the study, design, and execution of information technology) but im going into ux design but i know sql/python/ statistics already so it shouldn’t be too hard to pivot
also do people have portfolios or how do ppl show their work
also how do interviews work for this field do u just do coding challenge or something
On the certification wave
Working on the Google/CompTIA A+
Would come out with an entry level certification hopefully opens up new prospects
Honestly I was in data science for a while. I got my cloud certs from Microsoft(Dp200/dp201). I personally don't like it as a career. There's potential to make good money, but slowly the field doesn't interest me.
Im looking to either get into accounting, nursing, teaching or cybersecurity
One thing I hate about these IT/Data Science positions is that they're mostly contract and have little job security compared to other fields.
You can land a nice role , last a good 2-3 years. Then when its time to look for another job, you won't hear a call back for a while. You can also get laid off plus you'll always be forced to keep up with the growing pace of technology.

What engineering?
Engineering is so much better than IT/Data Science fields esp if its Civil or Mech.
I wish i did engineering.

If you have customer service experience, you can land a entry level help desk.
Certs are nice as well, but experience over everything.

I heard UX Design is tough and you need a really good portfolio to stand out.
Health Informatics is really good especially if you come from a nursing background.
