Yea movie missed a step with that scene. His speech was cringy and I don’t think that’s what they were going for.

  • Oct 21, 2020

yeah this speech was the corniest& worst part of an otherwise great movie

I wish we got more of post “Murray” Joker. Another 30 minutes would’ve done it for me.

Maybe he gets away and does some more Jokerey things lol idk. It’d be a cool Easter egg to see him develop into the more cerebral Heath Ledger Joker. At least planting that seed.

    I kinda like this scene

The bit of dialogue before he shoots Murray was super clunky and heavy handed, I agree. Could've been handled
so much better. But the last chunk of 25 minutes is still my favourite section of the film.

I mean the bit where he goes on Murray's show and spells out how society did him wrong. The whole speech felt so on the nose and came off as corny to me.

While I understand where the criticism comes from (and partially agree with it), I do feel like the sequencing in this movie is phenomenal - making it much easier to just roll with what’s happening.

    This

I wouldn't have really liked the film but as soon as he put the makeup on and s*** and became the Joker, s*** was fun to me and made the build up worth it

I feel like it's critics take it more seriously than a lot of the people that love it

I can see what people saying about the speech but it worked for me bc he was like a new person now he the killer joker. People with problems can be like diff people If they're playing a character. But yea it was a lil on the nose

Lol I also felt it's not meant to be taken that seriously. I watched it twice and I enjoyed it both times.

I'm just glad it made a billion at the box office, inspite of that weird mob of journalists that were fixated on making people not watch it

in case anyone's interested this video essay by Zizek sums up what is going on in the end and that it's not necessarily the on-the-nose message Arthur explains in that interview.
