Everything on here feels really tight. Sequencing is smart, and the quality is there on every song. There are def a few songs that feel unnecessary and could've been cut, but they aren't bad by any means and that's maybe 3 songs on a 23 song album. There's a ton of sonic and thematic density to shift through and the album is longer than average so I think a lot of people balk at it and skim through it once. But this is a deep project, needs a few listens and actual thought to start putting together what makes it so special.
It'll grow on many, like TLOP has over the years. When an album is this good, the circumstances of its release fade over time and all that remains is the quality.
No one asked you to spit facts
I mean the album is a little all over the place, a mixed reception is appropriate.
this and the length, the longer a project is the higher a chance there is that there will be songs that people are not gonna like

Facts. And on that TLOP note, it’s funny you say that because when TLOP dropped it was not universally loved aside from Famous. I remember playing songs for my friends who said they were all “too weird.” Now 5 years later everyone calls the album a classic
the reception is super positive i havent really seen anything that negative lol
check metacritic and IG comments lol
The album is far too long though, the oversaturation of material on it make's it a cumbersome experience at times
JIK & Ye were too brief for sure, but Donda is the stark opposite, it is very maximalist when a 16-20 tracklist would have represented a better middle-ground
I can see this and also feel that putting a little more substance into certain songs would be nice (Keep My Spirit Alive verse). not a perfect album but very good and more interesting/essential than 99% of releases this year
The result of cancel culture has pushed people to virtue signal and care more about the artist than the art. They’re caught up on the controversies than trying to actually listen to the album. They’re all missing out on the greatness tho.

not shocked at all tbh, its all over the place production/bars wise
as far as factors outside the music, adding dababy + manson was designed purely to get a reaction, which is what ye got
I truly wonder how CD - Grad would have been perceived in this era. I think people forgot about how Kanye used to have long outros and refrains on his albums. I missed s*** like this.
Graduation had 13 tracks nigga what
Both CD and LR had a concept along with epic skits and god level sequencing (Roses to Bring Me Down one of the best transitions of all time.) and Deray Davis.
Meanwhile Donda intro is literally someone yelling donda over and over again. Clearly 24 should’ve been the intro.
Broke Phi Broke wouldve been trending if LR came out today lol.
I mean it's definitely not a concise project
At some level, you just have to cut down ideas, even if they are good ideas. I think it's way too long, I think there's songs that while good, you don't need, and I think it's a slap in the face to the listener to put those last 4 songs on there after already being there for an hour and a half. The Pop Smoke demo being on there is the actual worst idea Kanye has ever had (other than not releasing Yandhi)
I still think it has enough quality music to be one of the best projects I heard this year
I'm still not sure why he put the globglogabgalab sample on there. Like I actually am mentally perturbed every time I hear that, and I have to think most neutral listeners actively wonder if there's a joke being played on them every time they listen
god breathed outro isn't your usual grand kanye finale though, it's just an unnecessary loop that drags out the song and doesn't go anywhere. i love the pure souls outro though, idc if it's a little long s***'s beautiful.
The outro of God Breathed is exactly the same outro as Say You Will

Exactly this, people loving Runaway or SYW outros while hating on GB, it’s laughable
If you're not a fan it's hard to digest all these filler tracks
No filler tracks on it really.
Choose a random track from this (besides interludes) and it would be a highlight of any other artist’s album.

How do you describe Tell the Vision, Donda Chant, all the pt 2 tracks
you can cut half the album easy

TtV is literally an interlude, while DC is just an intro pt2s are meanwhile obv bonuses. It’s like saying that skits and DfSL remix are fillers on LR.
It's surprising. It's a very solid album yet the 'outer world' is s***ting on it. Feels like the twilight zone almost

Skits would have these MFs fuming
I mean Donda is near perfection for a Kanye fan.
For a regular listener it should be at least solid 7/10 - good, enjoyable album.

Post dark fantasy kanye has always been challenging as hell for casual music fans. Hust like tlop, people will come around to this once hes not cancelled anymore in about a month or 2
