End of over my dead body is a classic screw sample
seems like he always showing love to Houston then
Our generation is becoming the old heads that’s all. Happens with every new generation.
People hated rock and roll when it first started popping, thought it was nothing compared to classical or jazz or blues. The rock and roll kids grew up, and hated the punk rock and hip hop that their kids loved.
Hip hop kids grew up and hated the non-lyrical trap/drill/“mumble rap” with some of the artists that we consider legends (young thug, future, Keef etc..)
We’re getting old. Although there is a bit of a lull right now, it’s a transitional period, but something new and interesting will pop up soon
Are you worried for the future?
The cycle was broken by streaming
There is no more mixtape scene that birthed our generation’s legends
How will the next generation do it without the mixtape scene?
Bro if anything this is the most accessible time in hip hop history. Mixtapes are still here they just get out on streaming services
Are you worried for the future?
I’m worried for the future of hip hop, but not really the future of music
The real issue has less to do with generations, it's moreso that entertainment in general has so much to do with spectacle and constantly being pushed. What was considered extreme is basically tame now so guys have to keep pushing the boundaries of what's wild.
It's always been less about the music and more about the spectacle. Back then a guy rapping about selling d**** and shooting people was wild enough for general audiences, as time went on people went Wilder an Wilder to stand out. Guys tatted themselves out, rapped about some wild ass s***, wore flashy ass s*** like grills and oversized chains. As that became normal guys pushed even further and now we got midgets with green braid and s*** rapping about being sad. The nature of entertainment was always going to lead down this path but ultimately the music itself didn't drop in quality, just what was pushed to the forefront. With the internet everyone has a chance to make it big and release tons of music so the market is saturated but plenty of great projects come out. The quality of music itself is fine, the state of the game and what's pushed toward general audiences is the issue.
Its fast food music, make as much as possible and quality takes a back seat. There is nothing wrong with making fun rap with no depth but if
1. Its not catchy
2. There are no clever bars
3. You have no originality
Whats the point?
op you talking like from 2004 to 2010 we didnt have trash music too, theres always gonna be a trash commercial part of the culture, nowadays its more notable because rap became the most popular genre in the world but dont worry we still have plenty of good artists in the mainstream and the underground. all this bullshit music is starting to get old for casuals. lil pump and all those stupid trappers are flopping, 69 is next when his moment of clout ends

The thing is, it doesn’t look like 6ix9ine is going anywhere soon, he’s here to stay
It’s all about balance
This.
Although current rap is losing its artistry, it can still be entertaining.
I cycle through both
drake getting outcharted by corncob kenny got drake stans acting different
has nothing to do with that
what are your thoughts on the topic at hand tho?
Coming up I remember brushing off everything they were saying as dust and outdated and championing for my era instead (Lil Pump, Lil Yachty saying f*** Tupac etc) but with the recent events of 6ix9ine and looking at the landscape of rap I’m starting to realize they had a point.
Listening to classic albums like Ready to Die, OB4CL, Illmatic the soundscapes and poetry displayed on these albums are light years ahead of the fast food music being put out today
I guess the moral of the story is to always listen to your elders
Don't worry about 6ix9ine. Bro botting his views and his gimmicks gonna get old to the masses eventually.

Imma keep plugging this for yall this real rap no gimmicks or corny meme rap
streaming tipped the scales for good... but I hope I’m wrong
the incentive to create and story tell in a traditional hip hop way has been overtaken by the desire to create a sound that contemporary and can do well on streaming. i would even argue pop music writing has gotten simpler & simpler as well
couple that with the unprecedented accessibility of music, music making tools and you have way too many people making infinite amounts of music that just impossible to digest as a casual listener. therefore critics and labels have more power than ever, since they have their pick of the liter of who they will push on steaming platforms, editorials and social media, which will be the only way for the casual to keep up with the endless releases.
hence the birth of 6ix 9ine, the antidote to the traditional rise in the hip hop and label streaming controlled landscape. here we got a dude that basically sacrificed his body and life to become a meme that the bloods would support and get in the studio with producers to make the most outlandish music and music videos as possible(never forget he got co-signs from the ogs ie. Nicki ye 50 etc) dude figured out the entire game in the matter of months
I do hope I’m wrong tho
Damn you got a point, honestly I was just going by what KTT says about him and I always see them calling him a culture vulture. Anymore dope examples of him showing love to the OGs?
This is my latest update to my initial post -
EDIT: And Screw homage on November 18th on So Far Gone in 2009
I’m sure @Vietbrah could come in here and f*** you up some more if he felt like it so let’s just not do this. :word:
Thats because it got to point where any criticism automatically equals "hating". People don't know how to tell the difference between the 2 so the point gets lost.
people nowadays can not critically criticize tho
