Lil Baby had his conscious turn last year?

Of course, it's about as radical as Killer Mike fighting the power with small business loans to cops or whatever.

I would personally like to thank TOPDAWG for f***ing up Isaiah's chance and SZA's chance at becoming superstars! Someone gots 2 pay 4 this mistake!!!!

yall putting that "conscious" title on Kendrick and Cole like they biggest hits wasn't some "non-conscious" s*** lol.

Kendrick already said a decade ago on so appalled freestyle don't call him a conscious rapper lol.

Kendrick dropped tpab(!!!) and gkmc(!!!) and youre sitting here saying that he isnt conscious because damn was commercially successful.

    Really good point

I don't think conscious rap is whats selling rn but the superstars are definitely able to make music like that when they need to

Poor Righteous Teachers, X-Clan, Brand Nubian, The Fugees, etc. Those are conscious rappers.

Nas and Pac told it like it was, but they weren't those kinds of rappers. Nas was very weary of that title.

The one person in this thread that gets it.

Black Thought obviously isn't as big as Kendrick and Cole, but he's probably the next closest widely embraced conscious rapper. He's just not nearly as big in the mainstream like Kendrick and cole, but everyone knows who the roots are

Someone that can be a conscious rapper and as big as Cole/Kendrick doesn't exist yet

    lmfao

  • May 6, 2021

Yall overused the f*** out of that term so much the rappers that yall would "aspire" it to have said many times don't call em that.

    Mick Jenkins, Ab-Soul, etc.

It puts them in a box.

And that's why no "conscious" rappers that call themselves that unironically ever blow up. Because if they did, Blackalicious' Blazing Arrow would've been in museums.

    lmfao

    Here we go.

Show your work. Nas didn't like the title. He had conscious songs, but he wasn't a conscious rapper. God's Son can be considered a conscious album. So can Stillmatic but the rest of his catalog says otherwise.

Neither do Pac nor Nas have any record that is deeper than any track on this album. Not even the instrumental jazz track.

When yall say conscious, what the f*** are we talking about here?

Looks like we need to unpack the term conscious rapper, there's a lot of confusion going on.
