Nas, Outkast, lauryn hill,Lupe, kanye at times, white people love Run The Jewels, etc
Hip hop has always had conscious rappers that were almost as big as the Jay Z's, Wayne's, Drake's of the industry.
This lane has been dead for a good while, who's succeeding Cole and Kendrick?
Please don't say Cordae 🤢🤢
yes
i mean conscious sposed to be a counterculture. They aren't going to/trying to be megastars 99.9% of the time
and the people who become big in that lane don't rap concious majority of the time
superstars aren't being made like that in streaming era, let alone so called "conscious" ones.
maybe one day in the future with someone we haven't been introduced to yet but massive super-stardom in general is dying. the standard is below the floor too
Idk but phenomenal name/avi @op
Yeah nigga like logic started making that sound corny now the only one i can listen to is kendrick
theres no need for conscious rappers anymore
It's the complete opposite actually, especially in this era.
Idk but NLE Choppa was literally spitting bars on this b**** without sacrificing the energy/flow s*** is crazy
!https://youtu.be/ih6vI5SAkjcI dead ass just woke up and first thing i did was play this song
They're all stars but no one of them is a superstar except maybe Cardi?
Superstar is more like Eminem Drake Kendrick Kanye Wayne Cole Travis etc.. huge fanbase, well established icons, can sell out arenas, etc
The age of the superstar don't exist no more. We too spread out since the blogs stopped dictating what was popular and what's not.
i think polo g could be something amazing next album or two
Can you even count him as that tho?
What makes you say that
cuz usually conscious rappers where the news for the hood. not only does news travel much faster, ppl are more conscious than ever. to the point that even if a major conscious rapper came up, ppl will likely just try to tear him down for whatever small thing he did before. look at the J Cole noname situation.
but also black ppl are very aware of whats going on now. its not like back then when it was just tv and whatever happened on tv was what was known until you heard a rapper talk about it

Covid f***ed that up but when these venues open up and you see the Meg x DaBaby Tour pop off. Or the Durk x Baby Tour people will understand who is who.
But I hear loud and clear what you are saying!

this actually makes sense.
When people like Dead Prez and Arrested Development were coming out. Afrocentricism in hip hop was still a new thing. We aint really had people that were coming out with those kind of messages about "we're really from Africa" in hip hop besides public enemy. And they were moreso political about current issues happening here in this country more than anything.
Now, niggas are more than aware about it. Cause unfortuntely due to the lack of knowledge back then, a looooooooot of misinformation came through those conscious rappers of the past lol.
KTT doesn't like them but.....
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb24RrHIbFk!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43gm3CJePn0Those are both from 2017, they haven't continued making that in 2020 and 2021

He’s gonna be 30 this month. I feel like he missed his chance to be mainstream
I feel like age doesn't matter to an extent, he's still got a solid fanbase and people stanning him years after his last release.
2chainz blew up at like 38
Juicy J too in his 30's

Aren't Griselda rappers old too? lol
Do the rappers who talk about overcoming street life and what it’s like to live in it count as conscious (Youngboy, Polo G, etc?)
people are so quick to dismiss rappers like durk baby and polo even though they be rapping they ass off

True but chainz and JJ make music that’s more tailored to the mainstream audience than Zay does.
Not saying it’s impossible but I think it’s very improbable
