I was watching some old rock music and in the comments people say s*** like "this is real rock and real rockstars unlike the new little whatever rappers claiming to be rockstars"
So anyway, do you consider guys like uzi and carti rockstars? I mean you can say that yeezus era kanye was basically a rockstar. When you think about it, how many household name true rock stars are there? Someone whos widely known and is part of a counterculture.
Kevin Parker? Alex Turner?
Do you even need to be making rock music to be considered one
I mean rockstars back in the 70s do basically the same thing as rappers now. And current rock music its popular to just avoid all the crazy s*** old rockstars did and being indie.
Old rockstars were all about crazy s*** and living life partying etc... and "selling out"
Yes by Kanye stans
Other than that they're just rappers. Why does the rock genre have to be the standard for being an icon? F*** that, being a rapper is the new standard so there should be pride in it.
It's almost like there's a white man's w**** "black people aren't good enough" undertone to rockstars being held on a pedestal.
In the same sense that someone like Johnny Depp is a rockstar yea
The word just means diff things depending on context duh
Rock stars were a function of their time. It is impossible to be a rock star today in the same sense as 50s,60s,70s,80s.
Not really considering all rappers these days sit down to record punch in lines and lip sync on stage
Beastie Boys
I really feel like the rappers that make it a point to say "I'm a Rockstar" or "I'm an Artist" do it in a way that undermines the legitimacy of Rap to non Rap fans.
What is wrong with being known as a Rapper? Why are you making Hip Hop music just to call yourself a Rockstar or Artist in an attempt to distance yourself from the very Genre and Culture that put you on?
To me it doesn't make any sense and it makes me feel like those Rappers don't truly have pride in making Hip Hop or being immersed in Hip Hop Culture.

The rapper rockstar s*** started with Wayne tbh

Because rap is still seen as not legitimate enough. Despite it being the biggest genre, some people still scoff at rappers and producers just on that label alone. Which was why you got so many rappers saying “I’m not a rapper, I’m an artist”. Because of boomers.
I’m all for legitimizing the rapper label cause, it takes the same amount of skill to work FL Studio or any DAW as it takes to play an instrument like a guitar. It takes the same amount of skill to rap as it is to sing. But when people stop taking you seriously when you say you’re a rapper for years, it takes a toll and creates this whole rockstar s***

I know Wayne started the rockstar s*** but it's the post Yeezus Kanye stans that perpetuate this rockstar s*** like being a rapper isn't good enough (and of course they don't think it's good enough, they're suburbans who don't really like rap).

Yep. The boomers are at it again
(This phrase needs to become a thing on ktt2 btw)

That's true, but I feel like for Rappers to say that stuff, especially Black Rappers, it validates what ignorant, anti-Rap critics say about it and it makes the Genre and Culture look bad as a whole.

They were complaining about rock back then too. If you're really about music and legacy you'll ignore bum ass old people, it's not for them
