You can train an understanding of music in and of itself but not athleticism.With that being said rappers are technically musicians albeit like most singers they usually have very limited music knowledge
How is it wrong? You can understand music in the same way you can understand a sport. You might not be good at the sport, but you can definitely understand it and perform it at an amateur level, same with music

i think we're a bad sample personally bc most of us are rap fans. but he isn't asking this bc he personally feels like rappers don't count as being musicians

“Vocalist” is to “musician” as an NBA player is to “athlete”
Vocalist and NBA player = specific areas of expertise
Musician and athlete = broad terms that encompass a variety of skills and abilities

Vocalists, cello players, hip-hop producers, and songwriters are all musicians in the same way that NBA players, swimmers, NASCAR drivers, and gymnasts are all athletes
