I think it's a good idea, the difficulty being how it would be administered, and how this could be done on a national scale.

It's often talked about in the sense of putting money into people's pockets, but I don't really understand how this would be beneficial. The black/african american population is estimated at around 40 million people right now. Assuming every person in that number is entitled to a payment, even a fund of $400 billion would only amount to $10,000 per person (assuming the distribution is equal to each recipient).

If the idea of reparations is to try and re balance the structural inequalities that slavery and its legacies have caused, I don't really get how this achieves that?

i agree that some form of reparations would help a lot, but i agree with doom here in that we need to take back OUR OWN communities. we have homogenously black neighborhoods, in many of these neighborhoods (mine included), we're not the owners of the businesses, banks, infrastructure, etc etc.

if we keep depending on these non-black structures, we will always, obviously, be DEPENDENT! i think that's what he was trying to say, though it might've come off wrong.
