Yeah ive made this thread a few times in the past year as well, and seen many similar threads. It's not this you

These past 2 months i feel like i can enjoy music some more again, but moreso the music i listened to in my teens and that i haven't heard in a long time. Like lot's of TDE stuff in the early 10's and s*** like that also just older music in general

Love rediscovering music from my teens That s*** hits man.

    Late night nostalgia sessions

Can anyone else relate to this?

Music I used to enjoy affects me less. New music is generally not that interesting to me, aside from a few artists I stan, but even their impact on me feels reduced.

Some of it may come from my learning the technical aspects of music production. Producers will say they had to relearn how to enjoy music as a listener.

Music used to be my favorite thing tbh. It’s really a shock to me and my identity that I may not enjoy it as much anymore.

the music you listen to must suck

it's always fresh to me cause I'll typically go through phases specific to regions or genres, I might listen to some DMV rappers for 2-3 weeks, then check out Bay area artists, switch over to afrobeats, then back to my usual bangers, etc. I finally checked out LUCKI last week after hearing about him for yeaaars. Idk it's always some discographies I haven't delved into yet

If a new artist came out with some music the OP liked or if he discovered a artist making the music he likes.

    Will he not like it?

Or he will automatically not like it because he is "older" lol

Yeah this is a very real thing, man. I’m definitely not searching for new music the way I used to be unfortunately. I feel like I’ve gotten comfortable in my pocket. There’s a few gems that I’ll find here and there but not how it was like 10 years ago. It probably just comes with being older honestly.

Im in the exact same boat and have been since like 2018. My top artists and tracks have been ridiculously similar to the year preceding

like Earl Sweatshirt has been in my top 4 for 3 years. Robb Banks in there too. Lucki in my top 10 for 2 years

    I gotta do better

Personally, not as motivated to seek out music right now because I use new stuff I listen to help develop an association between it and new life events. Right now things feel stagnant because of quarantine and I don't want to dredge up bad memories when I listen to something I like in the future

    Yeah you've got:

    • Neo Dust (Earl, MIKE, Armand Hammer, sLums)
    • Indie/Art Rap (Slauson Malone, Pink Siifu)
    • Crushed Trap/Plugg (RCB, Jewelxxet, Suzuki Club)
    • Indie R&B/Rock Fusions (Teezo, Jean Dawson, Yves Tumor)
    • HexD (Team Mekano, DigiGhouls, Fax Gang, HexCastCrew, Spirit Gurlz)
    • Dark Trap (BMB Deathrow, SGP, Vamp Leek, Vodeci, Axx)
    • Shyne? (ericdoa, osquinn, helixtears, slowsliver)

Hell there are scenes being built up that I don't even know of.
There's just waaaaay too much cool s*** in the ether, if you can't find it or wade through it I kind of feel bad for you. If you want deeper music you can find it in the Art Rap scene. But of course the younger kids and mainstream rap is going to be more shallow, but the more indie/underground rap scene has more interesting and boundary pushing production and are trying to bring it to the mainstream.

this why i'll never get tired of music. there's just so much out there, it can be overwhelming but it's also a blessing

Alot of the artists that big into rap these days dont love it either lol

at least the gangsta niggas from yesteryear actively cared about the genre. Thug, Baby, Gunna, you got so many artists who basically just came into this s*** cuz they knew they was gonna be hot or someone told em they would

you can't just say this just because people are not into the music being released for a moment. Like the overall quality of hiphop albums has gone down in my opinion since the streaming era and being an album person that tainted my enjoyment levels a bit. I still go back to the older albums (especially early 10s which were god tier) when i feel like it's getting too stale

I always think it's a bit weird when people say ''you didn't love hiphop te begin with'' when people criticize the newer subgenres of hiphop music tbh

I still love the newschool, cause i was hella excited about people like Juice for example who did new things, but i really honestly believe there's also just a lot of thrash being pushed down our throats by the mainstream
