  • I guess i’ll be the one to say this but personally Kanye falling off has made me depressed and that plays a huge part in me not loving music as much anymore. He was always the blueprint for my generation and ever since he came back from his breakdown, s*** has not been the same.

“Cast” says a lot about how so many of you on here even engage with music

Cast as in a crew of people. You thinking too deep bruh.

I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface on music and I’ve probably listened to over 10,000 albums

    Could be depression.

ironically music hits way more when you’re depressed for me lol

See this is what worries me about the future of rap, like are we going to see another hard hitting classic to the level of GKMC again?

Hell yeah we will, it's just that artists are gonna have to be smarter and play the game better. Push good Singles/EP's as playlist fodder to build up population and push good cohesive albums to get the eye's of critics and it'll act like a positive feedback loop. The get a 2 in 1, the eyes of both the mainstream casuals that bump new tunes off playlists and hardcore music fans that have a wide taste.

The problem is that all the little rappers are doing right now is strictly making playlist fodder and that is my main gripe.

Theres some science behind this tbh

There is. I remember reading that the music you listen to from 14 to your early 20s stick with you the longest because your brain is still developing or some s***.

I think we will but it won’t happen as frequent as it used to. After GKMC we got plenty of classics months later and then once streaming really hit, you’ve noticed that we only get about 2-3 classics a year since like 2018-2019 ish

Yes. For some reason, I get this especially with Drake. Everything post ifyrt is just way too corny for my ears as I age.

  • Feb 24, 2021

They say music is for the young..

But honestly as I age I’m enjoying everything less and less

  • at 26 i disagree

Can anyone else relate to this?

Music I used to enjoy affects me less. New music is generally not that interesting to me, aside from a few artists I stan, but even their impact on me feels reduced.

Some of it may come from my learning the technical aspects of music production. Producers will say they had to relearn how to enjoy music as a listener.

Music used to be my favorite thing tbh. It’s really a shock to me and my identity that I may not enjoy it as much anymore.

Nah I feel you , some people in here are saying nonsense. After I started producing it also reduced some joy of listening as well.
Also I’m not sure about your case but I was doing too much d**** and started hearing things in a schizophrenic way where I always felt like the music lyrics or TV was talking to me. Kinda f***ed up but have mostly gotten rid of all that..
Also a lot of music today is fast food. Recently I was listening to modern classics Good kid Maad city and Oxymoron, To Pimp a Butterfly and Blank Face and really got that feeling again. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Give it some time and you will find it again

Complete opposite, as I’ve gotten older I’ve enjoyed it more. Listening to music I would have thought was wack 5 years ago.

strangely i've found this in myself as well

Feel like part of it has been disappointing releases from all the superstars.

Kanye and Drake with their post-2016 output
Travis with his recent run of singles
    Kendrick being MIA

It just makes me feel less excited when I see their name pop up on the new Spotify releases.

This makes a lot of sense for me personally since this is the pocket of music I find myself burrowing into. Like that 2011-2018 s***

Agreed the quality drop was quite noticeable, 2019 and on was very forgettable and even though lots of legends dropped in 2018 half of those were not up to par. Ever since streaming came into heavy play, specifically after the SC era with the death of X and Peep, its been a crapshoot

Lack of a new cast of interesting stars.

    Thats all.

Music is music its either dope or nah.

Funny how you criticized me for saying this last year and NOW you agree

The problem is some people become soooo connected to that one artist it sort of dictates their entire listening. I’m guilty of this with The Weeknd and I’m not really sure how to shake it. As much as I love the guy I really want to do some real digging, but I just always find myself coming back there.

Also it doesn't help if they have a vast discography

Get your mind blown by another artist, like a true craftsman. I used to be a lofi guy and all I listened to was Nujabes/Dilla and I couldn't get into anything else. But as time went on I found some weird underground rap that scratched an itch I didn't know I had.

Because most of us on KTT are now in our early 20's to early 30's. This site isn't the same demographic it used to be back in 2015 or even 2010. A lot of mainstream stuff isn't going to appeal to us because it's aimed at a way younger audience (even then before) then it once was because that's how the music labels make money now. There is some really good stuff but you have to dig DEEP to find it.
