I don't think it's being closed minded. He can dislike whatever he wants.

But theres literally something for everybody out there.

You didn't have to look so hard for good rappers in the mainstream about 6-7 years ago. Now even the underground has been infected with the samey production and flows. People will come in here making excuses because they enjoy the trash, but the problem is noticeable for anyone who isn't putting their head in the sand.

When d major artists drop their s*** they been crafting for a minute in next few years they gonna restore d feeling n feature younger new gen rappers dat actually got wat we wanna hear n put us on. Trav ain't super high level but he put us on to don toliver who one of d new guys w actual talent. We gonna get more of dis soon I hope otherwise maybe u rite n rap jus gon go dis way til we hav to accept it ain't fr us anymore..

ok im not gonna sit here complaining about the current status of rappers and s***, because most people on this forum can agree w me when i say that the current state of rap is oversaturated with lots of artists that arent very good..

however im beginning to wonder if im just outgrowing this genre to its full entirety.. almost all the guys that dudes post on this forum who are supposed to be "up and coming" all sound the same to me, theres like no diversity anymore. it just seems like the average consumer of rap music seems to be getting younger and younger and dudes who are like 15-17 are now blowin up as opposed to like 10 years ago when it was like 18-20 and even older was the avg age of rappers..

speaking on the subject matter too its like almost none of these guys that are poppin like that (besides the little underground conscious rappers like westside gunn, mach hommy, freddie gibbs) only use this music for partying.. why is everyone so obsessed with partying 24/7 now? like i cant understand where 95% of everyone else's time is devoted to?? i cant fw 808 and hi hats with autotune screeching when im driving to work in the morning?? it's not relatable in the moment..

now im not calling out these guys for being s***ty entertainers.. they know how to attract an audience of kids, but its like when it comes down to the actual music part it just seems like its severely lacking with diversity..

im all for progression in the genre and dont think everyone needs to be on some boom bap type government s*** 24/7 but like at the same time theres just no dudes who are really really are touching on important subjects and expressing themselves like they used to.. especially during such a crazy time in our country too.. shouldnt there be more of this?

and another thing that just doesnt seem right is that artists "clout chasing" through various social media platforms incriminating themselves to doing stupid ridiculous s*** to attract attention from younger people.. its such a disingenuous thing to do.

rap culture is like at the most toxic ive ever seen it.. so that just makes me seem like i'm out of touch and too old to enjoy it anymore.

(check this song out) this is what i would love to for everyone to hear it.. dude speaking some facts in the lyrics and making a catchy ass song

this just sounds like chance the rapper without the religious stuff. boring. agreed on most of what u said though, there's much more rich white kids listening to rap more than ever and they are more than happy to listen to incredibly low effort s***, so until they get bored rap, BUT MAINLY trap which people are forgetting will be milked dry

  • Dec 27, 2019

I really don’t see what’s bad about mainstream hip hop atm. Who even are the biggest acts from this year: Travis, Thug, Gunna, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Lil Nas X, Juice, NBA

None of them make garbage music

    Always insightful.

I don’t listen to too many new dudes but I always listen to past favorites and look out for music from people who already established themselves as someone worth listening to over the years.

it’s not outgrowing the genre it’s just that the new rappers from the past year or two are mid. i’m not really worried, it will bounce back.

Rap is not as young as people make it seem. It’s almost 4 decades since its started

most of us have concurrently followed the 10s, some of us the 00s and the 10s, so it's been a constant ~2-3 decades of backlogged history.

jazz is nearly 100 & rock's got 60 years even if we discount the 10s. 'classical' has got centuries too so rap young

Yeah you're right FrostyFlakez schooled me on that . Didn't mean to come off as pretentious with the thread tho.. I still enjoy rap but mainstream really ain't for me I guess and you are right I'm not the target demographic either
