Yo but here's the thing. Has there ever been a better time in hip-hop to be a Saba? To be a Smino? Hell, in some ways, to be a J. Cole?

Dudes like that (at least the first two) can tour, sell out shows and get even bigger venues the next tour, drop critically acclaimed projects, get big feature slots, while STAYING independent?

They don't need to make a "Work Out" like Cole did. They don't need to make radio hits. They can just make good music and it finds enough ears for them to live COMFORTABLY at bare minimum. And there are so many other artists like this I just feel like these are the two I can spotlight.

So while you may be out of touch with the "mainstream" top 40 hip-hop, perhaps for good reason, there might not be a better time to be a rap fan than right now. More rappers are rapping than ever, and there's more money in it than ever, so more dudes are becoming successful in their niche. You can pick and choose what you need from each little pocket and keep rocking, or you can find someone new and dope every day.

Maybe if you listening to surface level rap music. Mainstream rap is soooo damn dry and boring right now which isn’t new so it shouldn’t be a shocker that everything sounds the same with alotta new cats. And the mainstream rap right now is melodic so it’s easy af to make which explains the over saturation and mediocre s***
