If I'm being honest, I outgrew Rap close to 10 years ago. It hasn't hit me in the heart since I was a pre-teen and doesn't affect me on any emotional level at all, aside from occasional nostalgia. When I listen to other genres like Shoegaze and Post-Punk it makes me wonder why I ever listened to Rap in the first place, probably because I didn't even know those genres exisisted at the time

rap is young, it's easy to exhaust if you're always seeking.

Nah because if anything the new guys were my age. I’m 22, X and Juice were like 21/20

I think honestly that you’re beginning to accept that your adulthood is a never-ending slog until you die. And that the art/culture/ thing/spirit, w/e you want to call the “It” that gave you relief from the world or showed a recognition of yourself within the chaos of the world, no longer reflects you. That’s time, nobody’s fault

  • Dec 27, 2019

You’re hearing time pass, it doesn’t sound good. That’s not rap though, and if you reflect that disenfranchisement back at the genre you do it a disservice! Also listen to Billy Woods

When you realise the artform is dying and the packaged bullshit they push to the mainstream these days is promoting bad habits and a terrible lifestyle

Yeah until there's a renaissance I'm going to listen to old s*** and other genres

Not sure I'll ever fully outgrow the genre though

  • For example

Kanye and Jay are both boomers and their love for rap still runs deep

  • The question is whether you really really grew up with rap or not. If you did, I don't see how you can outgrow it

  • Dec 27, 2019

theres no such thing as genres anymore, we just gotta throw that whole concept out in the first place cause everybody got their own idea of what "rap" should be like. Regardless something is always gonna resonate with you but a lotta yall biterness about the genre is clouding your judgement. jus lt sounds like growing pains to me. enjoy life and music man theres not much more to it.

when i get old i probably won't even listen to rap

    mostly house music

    Rap goes in cycles tbh.

Last decade we were in the "ringtone rap" era than that transitioned to the blog era (drake kendrick cole etc) Than the soundcloud era came. Something else is obviously gonna follow that.

    it’s been a while though

i used to defend the whole soundcloud/ironic rap wave when dustheads were seething over it but I certainly didn’t expect it to last over half a decade
