Any idea what effects Qtip used on this sample? I def hear a low pass and a phaser, maybe some chorus.
I wanna recreate this vintage texture. If I have to get a***og gear to do so I will. Idk if digital can make something like sound like this.
Look into whatever he used to make beats. It does sound a***og
Any recommendations on getting started with Ableton and music production in general?
Hate to sound like an ad, but if I was getting started in Ableton i'd check out Fanu's course. There's a lot of misinformation online regarding music production techniques. I used to put like a 6 band eq boosting different frequencies on snares from sample packs
fanumusic.com/musicproduction
His course is like $30 or something, but all the information is in one place instead of having to dig through YouTube.
Do any of y'all pitch your drums to the key of your song?
I feel like most people don't, and if I change the pitch of a snare or kick I just do it by ear for the feel. To be honest it seems like something thats superfluous .

Facts, used to think it was important but with lots of ye production it isn't always in key
On the other hand I'm pretty sure 808s and basses always need to be tuned

808s and basses definitely need to be in key, but kicks and snares don’t as they aren’t technically “tonal” instruments, 808s are like Timpani and kicks are like Gran Casas

Yeah the bass is the only thing for sure

Always pitch your drums is makes a night and day difference and any industry producer will tell you the same and ive heard it first hand from them as well

Kicks and snares definitely do need to be in tune
It might not sound like it needs to be when you’re first listening to it as youre making it but everything should be in tune even the hats

Everything should be in tune not just the bass

No they don’t, they aren’t tonal instruments

Everything has a pitch no matter what it is and it will have an effect on your track because of clashing frequencies and it will sound off and miles better when its in the right key. You can have a perfectly produced song but if theres snares hats and kicks out of tune it will most definitely affect the way the track sounds. Kicks may be not as noticeable but when you do put it in key with your track it will definitely show a difference and that’s something that i wasnt doing for a while and didnt even realize how much of a difference it made until I brought it to this one producer he did tracks for kanye and rihanna and he told me it was really dope but just that there were things that weren’t in tune and i went back and made the changes that i needed to and it definitely changed how it sounded a lot and that’s something that i never forget now and it made the quality of everything i made 10x better
And especially with low end if theres too much not right in your low end it will really mess it up. Thats why on good quality kits the sounds are labeled with what note it is because it most definitely matters
Does your kick/snare clash with other frequencies?
If yes, pitch it differently/choose a different sample/automate eq.
Tuning your drums is not necessary. Sample selection should be more emphasized than pitching your kick up 3 semitones or something.

Yes I know everything has a pitch but the pitch of a kick, snare, or hat is not important, kick can be 50/50, it’s only important if it’s causing phasing but since kicks happen so fast it won’t really be apparent, and if it is I’d just choose a different sample, I wouldn’t tune it cause that could introduce artifacts. Snares and hats literally don’t matter at all in any circumstance though because they aren’t tonal and won’t cause any phasing or clashing. Never met a single person that tunes snares or hats for any other reason that an certain effect they want, the actual pitch itself doesn’t matter. And when I talk about this stuff I mean artificial samples, a kick or a snare on a real drum kit is tonal and should be tuned, but fake drum samples not made from real instruments don’t matter lol

Nah the snares and hats dont cause frequency or phase issues thats just really for the low end but keeping them in key will still help the overall sound of the track
Anyone know the instrument used for the high pitched sound at the beginning of the song?

thats not really an instrument thats a synth

You should’ve just hit me up lol I’m a film composer the answer to this question depends on the type of string sound you want. Silky and clear? Heavy and aggressive? Classical? Epic? Etc.

Silky and clear
To name an example the strings on the interstellar soundtrack Can’t buy the hans zimmer spitfire library tho
imma have to find a torrent of what I’m looking for

I’d suggest just buying Spitfire’s Albion One it Audio Imperia’s Nucleus.

Thank you
Thank you
I don’t have Nucleus but from what I’ve heard it’s amazing, I do have Albion One though and although I have better stuff now I think that for the price it’s hard to beat. And if you want to get as silky as possible make sure you use the Con Sordino string patches
