These are not EXACT settings since each vocal is treated differently, but this should help give you an idea of which frequencies are most important. Also, there are many other options for compressors, these are just the ones I prefer.
Subtractive EQ:
100: high-pass to get rid of unwanted noise
100-200: notch out for resonances from small rooms
200-300: notch out if vocal sounds muffled
1176 modeled plugin (I use the CLA-76 from Waves)
Ratio: 4:1
Gain reduction: 1-2db
Attack: 5
Release: 7
Additive EQ:
1800-2200: boost to add presence
5000: boost to open up the top of a vocal
9000-11000: boost for brightness
LA-2A modeled plugin (I use the CLA-2A from Waves)
Peak reduction: 2-4db
Adjust output gain
EDIT: not sure why some lines got separated and were made bigger
never heard it described so simple before wtf. Thats a great guidline, I been sleep why nobody ever mentioned it in one them tutorials lmao
Thank you so much, I legitimately saved this to my notes

Interesting boost you do for 1800-2200, I always have to cut out a lot of that area because it becomes much less nasally for me, specifically around 2200-2800 range
It really is crazy tho how every vocal is different and there’ll never be a one size fits all type of thing
I swear this s*** is so tedious and getS frustrating at times, but it’s the best feeling once you learn something new or really see how much you’ve progressed
Anyone willing to critique a mix and master I did? not to sure about it
Send it my way
Just copped some JBL LSR305’s and good gawd these sound amazing
I have the 308s, the LSR series are outstanding for the price. I wanna try out the Kali monitors next

Fr it’s insane. How much are the 8’s

I got them on sale for $400 after returning the Yamaha HS5's. Typically the 8's are $500.
Been thinking about buying stems for a couple of beats I’ve been recording to.
I got bad experience buying stems though. Last time I bought stems the snares were panned to the right like how they were in the original and overall I could tell the dude left a lot of his presets on the drums and the sample.
If I buy stems should I make sure to specify to the producer that I want the dry stems only? Or should I get the wet ones too? Just feels weird since stems cost upwards $75 usually and I wanna make sure I get my money’s worth when I hire someone to mix and master it.
Or should I just save myself the headache and just buy an untagged wav file ‘cause that’s been working fine for me so far lol

whatever’s easiest tbh. most of the time I just get an untagged wav but I ask to take off any limiters.
as far as stems go, it kinda depends how wet the stems are. if you want the most creative control, probably best to get them dry, but if the wet stems sound good then you could just stick with that. When I get stems, I usually get them wet since they usually don’t have too many plugins, and of course without any mastering/limited plugins and they’re already leveled.
Found an online ear training "app" on gearslutz that's supposed to be supplementary to an technical ear training book by Jason Corey and thought it would be useful to y'all
Anyone know what this vocal effect is called?
It’s directly under the main vocal just a slight underwater delay type effect, it’s way louder on this song
Who in here uses logic??? Need help asap.
Every time I import some vocals it sounds like its being fast forwarded
Its crazy how low the levels of the bass in commercial hip hop tracks really are
For the longest i’d have it so loud but making sure its felt more than heard has brought my mixes up to commercial loudness

got a Midi to USB cable with the hope that I could use my Casio CTK-601 keyboard in FL Studio but I can't get it working, what do I do?

Look up if there are any drivers you have to download in order for to get it working
