A dude who is pretty catholic and has been forever is religious. Like what are we doing here? Lol.

I’d say most people who are very anti gay marriage are rightoid status. Like there’s quite a few people I know who vote left, are religious, and aren’t that. So there’s a major reason why you get tossed over to that lol. Also doesn’t help that their stupid f***ing politicians vote that way too.

i never singled out gay marriage though, im talking about simple superficial stuff like homosexuality

if you’re Islamic/Christian and you condemn it as a sin on the basis of your religion, you will get slotted as a righty nine times out of ten lol

and even then how is someone who’s actually a full-on mainstream Christian going to want to vote for a gay marriage bill if it doesn’t align with the interpretation of the Bible that marriage is between man and woman? it isn’t gonna cohere and in their eyes they’re essentially going against God

if you mean “religious” in the sense of “Jesus just said be nice to everyone guys” with no recourse to the rest of the scripture then we have two radically different definitions of what being religious exactly is

This is interesting but has nothing to do with this election because Trump is a godless heathen

But they say he was chosen by God, just like Reagan

Tradition is tried n tested. Breaking down of tradition usually leads to s*** getting messy and uncomfortable. It’s not hard to see why a lot of people want to gravitate back to tradition

People tend to forget the (often very) dark underbelly of traditionalism pretty quickly.

Also, traditionalism and fascism go together like peanut butter and jelly.

In fact, you can make the argument that, at times, they’re more like smooth peanut butter and crunchy peanut butter.

falling back on tradition is fundamentally incompatible with the rapidly changing world we live in

    What are your beliefs?

i adhere wholly to Hinduism (particularly Advaita Vedanta) pretty much, but i study Christian theology and Buddhism here and there

the Dharmic faiths (Hinduism, Buddhism) don’t give two s***s about LGBT+ stuff and they have deities that change sexes at the drop of a hat lol

well a good swath of the left actually largely looks down upon religion because it directly clashes against their core values such as individualism and obviously secularism, (for the more radical and zealot side of these faiths) they don’t really leave anything that can fill a God-sized hole in their ideologies, that also isn’t even getting into the issues with LGBT+ rights and abortion blah blah blah so it’s a really hard sell appeal wise etc.

they kinda just hope disparaging and s***ting on these faiths are enough to get people to leave but that’s not how things work lol, if you don’t leave anything in place for people to gravitate to for the things that religions offer, they’re just gonna go back

Since when is the left for individualism?

Plus Trump undoubtedly has a counter culture appeal to him

I thought liberalism was kind of separate from left or right tbh. Libertarians are seldom called leftists for example
