Looking like a $60 million+ opening domestic weekend.
The Flood about to be given all the money it needs.
I didnt have as much of a problem with the comedy but everyone was just sooooooo stupid it got annoying and aggravating after a bit lol still a fun time but I expected a bit more given the hype
I feel like the comedy may have bothered me less if I watched it at home. Usually not one to complain about it but the whole theater was dying the entire movie and it just kind of made it all feel unserious to me / took me out of it a bit
Think I may like it better on a rewatch
And yes there was some dumb character decisions
Didn’t Cregger say he removed a ton of comedy from the final cut?? I can’t imagine what the previous cuts were like lmao

The jokes he removed were like actual constructed jokes/gags. Not situational humor or reactive humor, just outright straight jokes.
I think the characters making terrible decisions was sort of absolved by the tone being so humorous for me.
Random, but another movie that comes to my mind where everyone in it is legitimately just a moron is Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but that bugs me waaaay more being without the humor, it just comes off as terrible writing. And I don’t think that’s what Creggars RE is, but I get if it’s still not your thing.

But the amount of humor approached parody at a point for me. Cabin in the Woods was humorous but balanced a bit better for me.
When I look at reviews for this one I kind of glance over the ones I most align with so I know who to trust on some movies because this getting 96% is kind of absurdly high to me.
Feels it getting a lot of "well the old movies were terrible and this adapts it in a better way" . Which while true the elements of this that are "resident evil" many of which feel added after or the references when originally resident evil itself based on movies. The humor present and ( they cut a lot) go over what any game was

Totally fair. All valid criticism. I do think the climax of the movie inside the lab is basically full on slapstick, but I think I’m sort of at an advantage to where i didn’t have that high expectations (love Weapons, like Barabrian) and I’m not a Resident Evil games guy so I basically just went into this hoping to have fun and anything more than that was just going to be an added plus… I definitely have criticism and don’t even necessarily disagree with much of what you’re saying, I guess what I’m saying is I got basically what I expected

I am not a die hard of the Resident evil games either lol. Mainly played 4 and 5\. Considering playing more of them on sale on remakes and 9\. I think building up to where it got to Umbrellla corporation shooter normal smart character walks out and dies instantly after seeming competent. The Man who spilled the vile also stupid / not taking accountability. The scientist not checking him for bites or testing or anything stupid. Then Scientist not trying to inject him or throwing the thing that can turn humaniity Was back. was just a bit much.
I get it though. Movie doing successful regardless . I feel some would still say this was a good movie if it wasnt riding the resident evil brand and name but if it was just a horror movie with a different name and people didnt know it was cregger feels like it wouldnt get a fraction of the love it is getting.
But its all fair to be expected. based on reviews and those who saw the first 30 minutes I thought it would do a bit more

seeing a child infected for the first time in a while which is already kind of a tough topic get her brains blown out then a joke made and people laugh. When he just got bitten which confirmed to me the leaked ending was real and that he would die and not see his daughter. Was baffling tonally. Then he gets into a car with umbrella agents and an agent joking about starting outbreak in first place. Yet people acting like this is the same tone as the games
Calling this the same tone as the games is so dishonest. If they said it was more comedy focused going in I would have set a bit different expectations. I was expecting dark humor or a bit more clever than what was delivered.

Insane conversations happening on twitter. This wasnt even the first to say it.

Cabin in the Woods was essentially a parody film though, literally deconstructing and lampooning the “teens go to the cabin in the woods” type of film.
It’s literally the title of the f***ing movie.

Cabin in the Woods balanced it because it didnt have extremely dark moments or an overall deeper theme it was trying to hammer home. That is what i mean by balance. Either way even Cabin in the Woods itself was a one time watch. this movie also feels like a one time watch to me. When I wish it gave me a bit more so I would want to watch it again.
I like zach's movies but I wouldnt put them near Jordan's movies lol.
My man Peele takes a couple years off and they on his ass.

The first half of the movie is a almost perfect - great mix of horror and comedy
Like everyone the last 30mins maybe of the movie were a drop.
The ending was also a bit weird to me because the scientists were almost actively trying to not give him the antidote
wouldn’t it make sense to do inject him to save themselves??

Again you have the movie cover the family structure. Starts with a woman who he hits with a car (cough a woman he hits with his d\*\*\* and changes) ie he gets his girlfriend pregnant that he is avodiing. So he says " I need to get her to the hospital". On the way to get her to hospital to get an ( abortion ) ie see whats wrong with her. He gets pulled over. Then he says "she can ride in your car" which leads to the police officers death. Not to the same degree obviously
Then he thinks the conversation is over and it comes up again. She chases him into the house that had the lone man in it. the couples bodies merge. representing couple. The biggest thing being the little girl who is left alone. Where choosing to save her leads to him getting bitten and his eventual death. Even though he blows her brains out which he was reluctant to do. All the while he could have just left her same as maxine could have just left the woman. The darker themes and commentary of him being pro choice and afraid to start a family with his girlfriend then ending on "you will be a good mom" . Because he decided to go on a dummy mission to make more money to avoid a tough conversation. Just feels like there are elements missing

This film arguably has a more personal voice to it than Cabin in the Woods did though.
It’s akin to a horror version of something like The Furious (though better written than that). Just a stripped back pedal to the metal roller coaster romp, and at no point was there any hint or suggestion otherwise.
Even Cregger himself has talked about this movie being different from his other work, with The Flood being more akin to his two movies prior to this.
This is his “Just have fun with it.” flick, hell, a production like this coming just a year from his last film is a rarity in the industry in and of itself

I think they were trying to not inject him because they wanted to get out with the cure . Essentially if they inject him it appears they didnt have a way to mass produce it to sell it to the government or make more of it. So if they inject it and cure him that completes the testing of it and it works but it came across as bad of writing as it is he was the only deliver person with the substance needed to cure others

I dont feel this was pedal to the metal The Furious, Mad Max comparisons its getting though. He was propelled to different environments yes but often encountering a lone enemy at a time until the final 30 minutes where it feels like they threw the whole kitchen sink and not in a way that truly elevated the story, horror or suspense
especially since we knew he was damned from the bite. then when they do get the cure and synthesized it conveniently perfectly lines up to him turning and they dont have a gun ready to shoot him and its so awkwardly telegraphed again like Shadow of the colossus is mentioned because it plays out the same. The man character strives to complete a mission from an unknown entity so he can make it back to his woman. All the while in the end turning into the very monster he has spent the entire game killing. Whil now the other people see him as the monster they must kill to survive.
