great book im reading called wayward lives, beautiful experiments: intimate histories of social upheaval.
Very hard to categorize the book. Its a mix of archival sociological texts, and non fictional narrative short stories on black bodies during the transition to “freedom” after slavery, focusing on women.
Painting the pictures of the slums in the late 1800’s in context of its relation to the plantation. Very melancholic and it has me in shambles cause alot of thr stuff in the book is basically still apparent today. Highly recommend
Just got it in the mail on Friday and been slowly picking at it the last few days. Wanna try to get a good portion of it done today. It’s really f***ing interesting. It makes me feel really sad though. As a mixed man myself I feel like hearing Malcolm talk about a lot of his experiences makes me think about how I’d react. I’ve never really learned about him in school so learning about his life through this has been really eye opening and makes me really appreciate all of the work he and other activists did for myself and other African Americans
The first half was interesting af, couldn't put it down. Slowed down in the middle a bit for me and then the last 30% was a page turner again. The man lived a crazy life, didn't know half of the s*** he did before he was famous
If anyone is looking for a book to read would highly highly recommend East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I read it earlier this year and it's a masterpiece. Would legitimately pay to forget the story so I could read it for the first time again
If anyone has any good recs lemme know

Is this better than The Grapes of Wrath? Read a quarter of it and couldn't continue tbh

I've not read grapes of wrath so can't really compare. East of Eden had me hooked from the start, i'd give it a go if I was you
Started Dark Places by Gillan Flynn a few days ago. It's great so far.
Also bought Gucci Mane's Autobiography at the same time so im starting that next
Wow I'm still at 50% with Blood Meridian. For some reason I can't seem to hop back into it
Halfway through “the revolt of the cockroach people” by oscar zeta acosta.
HIGHLY entertaining political action/dramedy about a f***ed up d***gie lawyer representing and bonding with chicano radical leftists based in LA. Its so good. A real page turner i had to take a break cause i dont wanna finish it
Reading The Night Circus. It's pretty entertaining, balancing realism with fantasy elements.
Feels refreshing to want to read a book because you're enjoying it.

Checking it out now
Just finished “In The Garden of Beasts” by Eric Larson
First book I’ve just decided to pick up and read in years and I couldn’t be happier. Incredible f***ing book and I recommend it to everyone.
True story taken from memoirs/diaries and s*** from the US ambassador to Germany (and others) in the early 30s. Incredible to have all these first hand accounts who witnessed the slow and steady rise of the nazis and how easy it was to be complacent during it
Copy/pasted that from my post in the just finished thread lol. Just in case anyone wants to talk about it. Gonna have to start reading more now
any suggestions on where to start with Audre Lorde?
Im about to start with Zami
I'm reading the Night Circus and it's kinda lost its steam for me. Damn, I really was enjoying this, and then... It just went nowhere very slowly
