Finishing up Possibilities by Herbie Hancock
Such a cool and interesting guy. Down to earth, relatable, and so wise. His life was crazy and full of excitement, im tryna be like him
so sometime last year i decided i wanted to start casually reading, in which i let the book sit under my desk until the end of the year when i had a cognitive stroke which resulted in anterograde amnesia. so after that i’m reading for 15 mins as a daily cognitive exercise resulting in me not remembering any of the content i’ve read as soon as i shut the book, so i just finished and now don’t have any clue what i read 🙃

Well damn
YA?
Eh kinda I guess, but they’re also incredibly gory.
It’s a mix of sci-fi, gothic horror and fantasy.

They’re sick. Starts with Gideon the Ninth. Nothing else like it.
Necromancers in space.

I'll check it out. I'm not much of a fantasy reader; is it a steep learning curve in terms of lore etc

No. They’re a really smooth read. There’s a lot there if you wanna dig into it (allusions and references), but they aren’t overly specific or anything.
Also the fantasy elements are regulated almost entirely to necromancy.
They’re also pretty hilarious.
can anyone reccomend me an exciting biography/autobiography?
Pimp by Iceberg Slim and The AB of Gucci Mane are ones ive enjoyed in the past

autobiographies I've enjoyed
Malcolm X
Miles Davis
Rubin Hurricane Carter
Richard Feynman
Jay-Z's Decoded
Che Guevara's The Motorcycle Diaries
Bernie Mac's I Ain't Scared of You
one of my favorite books that I've been wanting to recommend here for a while is Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. it's a novel but written in first person and has a lot of similarities with the author's life. very long read, and you either love it or hate it, but I remember tearing through it because it was so exciting

Forgot to mention already read Malcolm X’s and loved that too
Is decoded a legit autobiography
I always thought it was just him breaking down some of his lyrics
Shantaram sounds sick, adding it to my list but I don’t wanna commit to a 900 page book atp

if you liked Malcolm X's autobiography then you'd probably like Hurricane Carter's too
I remember Decoded as breaking down lyrics but then also talking about his life and process a bit too. not your typical autobiography, but I liked it
yea definitely check out Shantaram when you're down for a longer read. feel like a lot of people in this section would enjoy that one
