I’m embarrassed to admit that I haven’t read a full book in well over a decade, but I’m feeling like I want to get into reading more.

I really enjoy hard sci-fi, philosophical ideas, horror, the paranormal and psychological s***. Basically anything that’s strange af but still set in the real world

Was thinking to start with the three body problem because it sounds neat, but I’m wondering if that’s an overwhelming read for someone who doesn’t really read like that?

Also if you have any recommendations, let me know

After not reading for damn near 10 years really, 2 years ago I set myself a target of 10 books that year. I did 16. Last year I did 16 as well. This year I've set 20 as my goal, and I have already read through 5 this year.

For the longest time I refused to read fiction, I preferred memoirs or other non fiction books, but this year I've taken the leap. My partner swears by Murakami books, so I think I am going to give Kafka on the Shore a go. It seems like a behemoth of a book, but I have only heard good things.

Camus. Easy to start with. Explore philosophical and absurd ideas without hitting u with bulk (and jargon).

The stranger or the fall I reckon.

    Thank you

Really and truly u have to learn the skill of reading again. Find your pace, read discussions online which will help you engage with the text, and ultimately enjoy it cuz if u don’t, u won’t wanna read again!

Not hugely philosophical but one of my favorite scifi writers is Iain M Banks. The Player of Games is a good starting point and the book my brother first got me that put me on him.

Annihilation also a good shout for some horror-ish vibes. Got made into a movie which I never seen so cant comment on that.

I was thinking to cop an ebook so I can get books free but i feel like an actual book may make for a better experience. Not sure if it makes a difference

reading a physical paper book does make for a better experience imo, but i can't buy every book i want. that's where the kindle comes in. was like 40 bucks on ebay a couple years ago, well worth the purchase. helps me decide what to buy

it's an older 7th gen kindle i got off eBay. was like 40 bucks. highly recommend, it's basic but what else do u need, battery lasts weeks and it can hold like 1k+ books. and with libgen that's a whole free library in ur hand. i just email my downloaded epub docs to my Kindle address and it downloads them in seconds.

I'll stop gassing up my cheapo Kindle after this but being able to highlight passages and add notes is also one of my favorite features. then there's a "book" titled "your clippings" you can open that holds all the notes and your comments and their location in the book
