i’m only chapter 4 rn, but i f***ing love it…honestly the first book that has gripped me since i began reading again not too long ago. i didn’t realize how funny it was gonna be, given the synopsis
Just finished All The Pretty Horses
I reckon that's my first McCarthy
Whew-ie, that was a salty ol' tale, lemme tell you
I must say, I miss the young Blevins
And the horses.
And the shadows of the horses, through dust, or rain, even lightening, stepping through arroyos, through the bracken, the cholla, the volcanic rock, all the while balancing something altogether sadder on their sloping saddles, improvised hackamores, and blood-filled boots.
Does anyone know a good book that explains and/or shows examples of all the different literary movements?
Mainly about realism, symbolism, modernism, postmodernism.
Current Xmas list is The Complete Works of Lewis Carroll and Batman Arkham Asylum deluxe.
Birthday list is Batman Long Halloween and probably some James Baldwin.
Got Blood Meridan been having trouble getting into fiction lately but this got me over the hump

so you've secretely running the book club yourself?! bad boy 😂😂
Just finished up Hyperion. Initial thoughts, this was just ok for me. Coming off of The Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy which is hardcore sci-fi, to this which is more Space Opera/Fantasy is kinda jarring. On its own it’s actually pretty good, but I can’t help but compare, and it comes up short for me between the two.
The mystery around the Shrike was ok. Didn’t really grip me all that much. I just didn’t enraptured me. As for the pilgrims and their journey, can’t say I was really a fan of how the author chose to tell the stories, but some of them were more enjoyable than others. Some I honestly felt like skipping, such as the Poet’s tale. Despite that though, I thought the characterization was really well done in the novel.
I’m gonna read the sequel, but gonna take a lil break before I start it. Overall I’d recommend this if you like sci-fi with a mix of fantasy/supernatural elements.
Wanted to read this one for quite some time and finally received my copy today.

Probably won't read it tho, not in the best mental state right now and this guy is so dark
"If I used to ask myself, over a coffin: 'What good did it do the occupant to be born?', I now put the same question about anyone alive"
"Three in the morning, I realize this second, then this one, then the next: I draw up the balance sheet for each minute. And why all this? Because I was born. It is a special type of sleeplessness that produces the indictment of birth."
"'Ever since I was born' - that since has a resonance so dreadful to my ears it becomes unendurable"
Reading leonardo davincis autobiography rn
And damn, its honestly inspiring. This book does a great job at humanizing such a mythical polymath. In reality, seems like most of his work isnt possible, or was half finished. and he was just a brilliantly curious guy. All this time i thought he was a mythical genius that held some hidden knowledge about the world. When he was just extremely creative. Which is more realistic and better to hear, cause like, everyone can cultivate the skills davinci had. And he also failed way more than he succeeded.
Also the book breaks down the components of genius and innovation in a way that removes the veil of superiority. Everyone can be "genius" and innovative. They are skills, like everything else thats learned
