    Literature Club tomorrow!

It's like a diet book club where instead of all reading the same book we just get together and have drinks/snacks and talk about the books we been reading and share recommendations and whatnot.

Im excited! We missed a month so it's been awhile

What do ppl mean by reading at a 6th grade level? Like do they not understand the words or they can't pronounce them

Any fans of memory, sorrow and thorn series here? I just picked up the first book and I'm really excited to start it. Heard about the series from George RR Martin's citing it as a major influence for his series

  • Any Chuck Palahniuk heads in here?

    I just finished Rant.

Somewhere along the line, I ended up with a collectioin of his. Started with stealing Diary from a homeboy when I was 20 and then a copy of Fight Club and somehow I ended up with like a mini-collection.

Finally cracked into him. Rant was a crazy place to start. What at times felt like a Tim Dorsey novel (florida man gone wild in florida before florida man was a thing), at times touched on societal structure and then bounced to the lies we all tell each other in said society like xmas and easter etc. mixed in with almost sci-fi tones. A truly all over the place book. First time reading a book since the pandemic I think. Feels good man

I mean thats a pretty stupid post considering books like that can really help get people into reading and are a great stepping stone if you've never actively read.

Especially books like Animal Farm that can help the reader understand the usage of methaphors, symbols and stuff like that through pretty easy to digest writing

yeah that’s why their assigned in school, and most adults now a days who get into reading through books like those never get past them lol, just look at the phenomena of adult white women reading nothing but young adult literature

    libgen.is 👀

from there just set up your send to kindle email address through Amazon, download and send, and synch your kindle

kindle takes epub files now so you usually don't have to convert anything but if the formatting gets messed up you can use a program called Calibre

Ok I was curious because I saw a lot of things online saying that doing it via sending to your kindle email is a good way to get your account blocked. Wasn’t sure if that was real or not.
    Are DRM’s ever an issue?

I'd be surprised if kindle did that because it'd just encourage users to buy other ereaders. I been using the method I described for years and never had any trouble

if u wanna get into philosophy my suggestion would be just to delve into whatever u want and then work from there that’s how i did it before i started going to school for it with PoS from Hegel. Otherwise starting with the greeks or the masters of suspicion (Marx, Nietzsche, Freud) is good since those 3 don’t require u to know the centuries long debates to really get them.

Other ways i suggest is reading up on whoever ur interested in on this site it’s a good resource to getting introduced to thinkers plato.stanford.edu/entries/plato

as well as reading secondary literature before u read the main guy so you can get background information on em for Kant, German Philosophy 1760 - 1860 by Terry Pinkard is good
    home.lu.lv/~ruben/Terry%20Pinkard%20-%20German%20Philosophy,%201760%20-%201860,%20The%20Legacy%20of%20Idealism.pdf

Also some tips don’t expect to get everything about the text since there very dense and debates over them still go on about them, or hell even finish i still haven’t finished PoS after trying to raw dog it on my first attempt a year ago. Also texts as dense and long as the critique expect months to finish them and take ur time with them there is no rush to finish them
