interesting that's one of like five books I did finish last year love both

Yeah just wasn’t my thing. I know he’s a good author but something wasn’t hitting with me. I’ll come back to it at some point for sure because I’m a completionist.

Catch- 22 which is ironically one of my favorite books but I refuse to finish it, I get a lil further everytime I read it but I know everyone’s going to die and I don’t want the book to end

Dune. Bought it and read 2 chapters. I actually want to read it too but I can’t remember the last time I finished a book in its entirety

    Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

I've been 48% into the book since 2019

    Beloved by Toni Morrison

Just got busy and never picked it up again

The spy who came in from the Cold by John Le Carré

Might end up finishing (i'm at 50%) but s*** is currently boring my socks off, even though it's short.

F*** bro same. I need to get on it (blood meridian)

I've been "reading" Marcus Aurelius' Meditations for about 6 years. I only read a few pages here and there whenever I'm going through s*** lol but I'm tempted to finishing it this year

Exact same situation here, I don’t really think it’s meant to just be read straight through just here and there as food for thought

Agreed. I really like that whenever I do pick it up, it's tied to whatever I'm going thru.

Also recommend The Art of Living by Sharon Lebell; it's an interpretation of Epictetus' works and is only ~100 pages.

I’ll pick the Art of Living up next

Is it similar to meditations in that it’s a collected bit of journals or something else?

It's more of a manual broken up into stoic ideas/concepts. It's definitely a lot easier to understand and the ideas are as short as a paragraph and as long as 2-3 pages.

It's cool to see how Epictetus' teachings influenced Marcus to write Meditations.

I’m the same, lmao. For one thing I’m not a huge American lit fan but the bigger issue is it’s like 20 pages of plot, 40 pages of Ishmael rambles and then like 100 pages about the weight and size of sperm whales outside of captivity

Heard its like gay p*** is that true

    Lmao this comment got me

There’s some allusion to homosexuality that pervades the book but in general it’s just a really well written story

Surprisingly I’m powering through it. It’s not the worst thing in the world when you just accept there’s more digression than plot lol.

    I’m like halfway through it

  • How to beat the market-Joel Greenblatt

just terrible, it basically tries to sell you on the concept of a magic formula which is really just value investing
