Crazy cus you ain’t give a reason for how it’s pro

The movie had a clear focus that Israel was the solution to Jewish Refugees post WW2 living in America. It erases the impact of colonization and displacement of Palestinians

The director makes Israel a prominent idea throughout the movie WITHOUT mentioning Palestine once, Zsofia does not talk once and when she does she randomly gets with married and they talk about wanting to move to Jerusalem. This isn’t Pro-Zionist up to this point because you see how Zsofias husband has a distain for her family because they do not want to move Israel and implicating they aren’t real Jews.

The issue comes in when Laszlo and his wife decide to move to Israel after Laszlo gets raped (his wife decided before she wanted to move). Okay yes it was extremely unsettling and depressing, but this is exactly why the movie is pro zionist

The director was trying to make the viewers sympathize with Jewish Refugees who lived in America post WW2 and specifically why they NEEDED their own country. Jewish Refugees were completely alienated so they just had to go to Israel and colonize land. It was their only option!

Not only that, but this story is complete fiction. The director made the excuse that this movie is about a Jewish Refugee who is a renowned architecture from Europe, but in reality you can tell it was to draw an excuse to draw sympathy as to why Israel exists.

Also not once throughout the entire time they mention Palestine the director can NOT make this is an important plot point and not mention Palestine once lol

THEY DO NOT MENTION PALESTINE ONCE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE !!!!! Yet his wife is a Oxford graduate with an english degree 😭

Problematic politics aside, I came across a reviewer who described the first half as 'very good,' but criticized the second half for descending into contrived, Oscar-bait-style drama. What are your thoughts?

i agree the pacing realllly lost its footing in the second act and it did feel oscar baiting. it’s what i meant when i said 3.5 hour runtime but it still felt like an incomplete plot

    I see

Also, the director comes off as a pretentious idiot with his Variety comments about runtimes in movies with 'people in tights and a cape' versus films 'by adults for adults' (oh, brother).

Like, what is this guy even talking about? Isn’t Endgame the only superhero movie released in cinemas that’s close to three hours long? I personally don’t care much about the movie, but it was an event; widely praised and hugely successful. I guess he thinks only children enjoyed it.

Plus, plenty of author-driven, lengthy films have had commercial success in recent years. He’s just spouting bullshit for the sake of it.

I didn’t peep the full directors on directors with Sean Baker but he did sound very well spoken but also very full of himself. Everytime Sean would try and say something about Anora he’d cut him off to talk more about himself

honestly i didn’t deal any reviews online, but that comparison did not cross my mind once, even now

  • earthwalka

i've heard that there can be multiple interpretations to be had...

At worst it’s indifferent, at best it’s skeptical (even if the protagonist takes a firm stance in the film) and I remain that it is disingenuous to paint it as definitively pro… but it also can’t be seen as definitively anti.

The idea of a Jewish homeland is treated almost mythically, and if you’re looking at the surface then yes, you will likely take away that The Brutalist is pro-Zionism. There’s no in your face, on the nose “it all sucks and it’s bad” message.

I ultimately think the film declares Israel a failure. It’s undoubtedly critical of America and capitalism and, at least in my opinion, there is a tying together of America and Israel that can’t be read as anything other than negative, but I won’t get into all of that until more people have seen it.

It touches on much more than I’m willing to type out in a KTT2 post, and it delves into the Jewish experience and existence, both personally and at large, in a way that I’ve not seen before. Given the times we live in, conversation and discourse surrounding The Brutalist is going to be inescapable and probably nauseating but

    Oh wow

This movie is terrible and i’m Being serious it might be the biggest waste of 3.5 hours. Please don’t watch this lmao.

A joke of a film and completely pro israeli. Beyond that it’s oscar bait trash and the long runtime is not indicative of a complete plot.

Came into it with no expectations whatsoever left it completely disgusted. This movie f***ing stinks and one of the worst I’ve had to watch in theatres.

gotta be on of the dumbest posts i ever saw

  • Everest

I’ve read that the film depicts the obvious desires for zionism born out of WW2 but ultimately has a skeptical and not entirely full throated stance on it? But obviously barely anyone has seen it on here so we can’t really get into it for a few weeks

    its not pro israel lol

  • kusa

crazy cus no one giving a reason .the movie is just simply pro zionist idk how ppl think otherwise

if a movie mentions israel or includes it at all you have to flash in massive red writing covering the whole screen ISRAEL IS BAD for a full minute or the movie is automatically pro zionist i don't make the rules
