No but he knows how to use his voice. I find it so interesting that he’s managed to influence so many current R&b artists men and women alike while not being able to sing.
Hold On, We’re Going Home doesn’t even sound like him
Lol yes it does it’s just layered with Majid Jordan vocals bc they’re technically featured
Like, back in the day he really used to flex. Just listen to him kill this Look what you've done performance. Won't even attempt to do this in 2023 lol
(4:22 mark)
!https://youtu.be/yUjJ2y-sZPMBria's interlude live
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOdDoCV3v20Do you really think he sounded good at the 4:22 mark? Idk man, doesn't sound the best to me. I'd argue he sounds better now in 2023 but maybe you'll say it's just the autotune (you're probably right)
But the Ellen and VMA performance of HOWGH took place right in between both of those videos you linked (2013 I believe) and I think it was horrendous. Doubt you'll hear him sounding this bad these days
I'd say he is sort of 'flexing' here and it is 2023
Or would you argue that he sounds better in the LWYD performance?
I have a reasonably deep baritone and I've found falsetto is actually a great way to protect your voice if you're singing on a nightly basis instead of shouting high notes you can't hit. A baritone with a good falsetto can cover a lot of ground and maybe that's something Drake should practice with his voice getting lower with age. He tries it on Falling Back and yeah it could use more work but it's not a bad idea.
Lately it seems like he's comfortable staying super low in his range and just trying to hit the notes, but it comes out sounding emotionally flat.
I think it's like a lot of people said: the standard for vocals this gen mostly comes down to melody and not timbre or vibrato because autotune does its thing, so rapping and vocal melodies have become his focus instead of the technical stuff.
I think you're right. People do often remark that he sounds 'flat', particularly live at times. Last paragraph is defo facts
Faster tempo he struggles with like One Dance. But on slower tempos where he has time to hold the note and focus on it he is better.
This is the reason why he used to used a TV track or previous recorded audio to perform One Dance or Hold on. They even tried to play the songs slower than they really are to suit his vocal performance.
yall gonna clown me for this
but trippie redd is a better singer than drake ahahah
He’s terrible now sounds zesty af
Vocals on honestly nevermind were terrible but niggas on this site cap for that album
He was in his bag from 09-15 though
He's good enough of a singer to have influenced an entire generation of R&B singers.
Future shrieking>>>
that raspy s*** kind of hard
in-in-in-incredible
INCREDIBLE!!!! yea yea
He use to be able to sing a little bit, he just needed a vocal coach and he would have been better. But now he lost his voice tbh
He's obviously synonymous with being the artist that birth a culture and sound of R&B that highlights the songwriting and melodies instead of the vocal ability (which is an insane feat for a rapper)
but at his peak he had a better singing voice than the PND's Bryson Tiller Tory Lanez and Brent Faiyaz's of the world
He actually could sing a bit
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lYJqTg1QUwnot better than Brent or PND you trippin 💀💀
that raspy s*** kind of hard

INCREDIBLE!!!! yea yea
It’s like a funeral when they see me cos these hoes faint
yall gonna clown me for this
but trippie redd is a better singer than drake ahahah
HE IS
Unfortunately, he absolutely can't. It's autotune on his tracks that make him sound so good. That's why he can't sing songs like One Dance, HOWGH, and Passionfriot live.
