Restartation
As a day one CD haver,;
V1 is a dystopian sunken place classic that will be reappraised one day
V2 took a while but is finally growing on me, not total garbage
Donda 2 the only actual s***ty album so far
Donda 1 an opus once edited
JIK and KSG are great
Ye is not
Donda 2 finished versions are pretty good actually
If you have to edit Donda 1 into a “good” album the same can be done with Donda 2 honestly
There’s 100% no denying Kanye had moments of brilliance in terms of production on Donda, Ye, KSG, Pablo, and even JIK
But I hate to break it to you OP, but you’re a decade late, because Kanye’s fall off began about a decade ago when his lyrics went to 100% ass cheeks
I'd say Yeezus was like the beginning. Maybe even MBDTF, given how diff it was from his previous albums. But MBDTF had clear direction and effort put into it.
That's not to say every album since then doesn't have good songs, Donda was something of a return to glory for me at least. But Vultures...

All day and only one came out in 2014

Donda 2 is weird because it's still debatable if it should be considered a real project or not. It's sorta like what V2 would be if it didn't get updated or sent to streaming.
True Love was kind of a mixed bag but COG had Kanye spitting and Eazy had quotable lyrics that were both personal and funny at the same time and a decent Game verse.
The rest of the album is basically a straight demo tape of unfinished songs with multiple versions of the same songs online.
So, it's weird because I personally don't f*** with the house/dance version of Flowers but I like the OG synthy version. I also thought the OG We Did It Kid was a trash trap song that overshadowed the vocalists but the new version with the horns and the new Ye verse after the Migos is fire.
Security is lowkey one of the best songs on the album though. It's got strong Yeezus vibes and all it's missing is an angry sounding Ye verse. Happy was dope too but Ye didn't update the mumble verse which makes it sound unfinished.

Yeah Security definitely had potential
way better than river btw
River is an upgrade from whatever that is
River is an upgrade from whatever that is

not a fan of ye on river though
way better than river btw
no chance, also pretty off topic
Everybody always makes this conversation way more complicated than it needs to be
The fact of the matter is the level of genius and quality he more or less maintained from The College Dropout in 2004 (further back if we counting production classics) to The Life of Pablo in 2016 was highly unsustainable and had to end at some point
He’s shown flashes of it since then, especially with his 2018 output but yeah there just seems to be a limit to how much genius art and creativity one person can produce in one lifetime

Highkey one of the best and most balanced posts itt.

Bob Dylan checking in at 82 with some of the most powerful music he's ever made
I can definitely see Kanye being the same
There's just no room for classics anymore in 2024, the way we consume albums. Chew them up and spit them out the same day. Seems like nothing stays or has a lasting impact.
Imagine Kanye being on his classic run right now?
It was all meant to end. Just be glad you witnessed parts of his genius in real time.
True. Honestly, both the Wyoming and Sunday Service eras are underrated when you focus on everything else but the actual Ye albums lol.
Wyoming era had tons of strong albums coming from the GOOD Music camp and awesome listening parties.
Even the worst albums from that run, Ye and Nasir, had gems on them that I revisit often like Ghost Town, Violent Crimes, Everything, and Adam and Eve. Honestly, Ye and Nasir are some of the few albums that suffered from the opposite of being bloated. They both felt more like borderline demo projects or mixtapes than full fledged albums. But I wouldn't call them bad albums either.
Sunday Service was also a fantastic move for Ye performance wise and Jesus Is Born was an actually good Gospel album coordinated by Ye. Jesus Is King was a disappointment because it not only watered down the Yandhi songs but it pushed Sunday Service aside too in favor of JIB. So, it felt watered down on both fronts. Apparently, kids on Tik Tok are f***ing with the album heavy though so maybe it's aging better than expected.
That Donda era was something else though. This site was just as electrified as the Kendrick/Drake battle during the era and everything was lining up perfectly until October 4th 2022. There was Kanye appreciation threads every other week and the Larry Hoover concert was praised a lot. Nothing was the same after that.....
what did kanye do on Oct 4 2022?
Someone isn’t fallen off till you stop checking out their work on release day
He fallen off then.....
