Was an immense disappointment when it dropped. But only those who followed his career until that point remember. He's dropped so much bad music after that this album now looks good in hindsight

Definitely not in the minority at the time, this is how I felt, and a lot of my peers did

He did such an amazing job at hyping up VFT6, and the run he had prior, that you mentioned, was top-tier

Over time I have come to appreciate Views a lot more, I’d now probably agree it’s a “classic” - it soundtracked a very important summer

But man is the middle stretch of the album very lukewarm. I can’t hate on One Dance though, I understand your criticism when it emerged as a single but honestly it’s a damn classic single (maybe i’m biased being from London)

TLOP & Views operate in the same way for Ye & Drake’s discography whereby a lot of people acknowledge them as classics, and a lot of others also point to them as moments that marked a noticeable decline in quality

i think he definitely saved a lot of VFT6 songs for the actual Views, but IYRTITL is definitely mostly VFT6 songs as well. any song he says “views” as an ad lib is clearly a VFT6 song, so it’s like both are partly VFT6.

Don't get it twisted. I don't think Views is a bad album at all. It's a solid 6.5 imho.

But the album was no doubt the beginning of Drake stat padding and focusing on making his albums quasi-playlists that will "have a song for everybody" while being able to dominate streaming.

I lowkey think Drake even adding Hotline Bling to Views was indicative of this too. It came out summer of 2015 and had no attachment to the concept of "Views From The 6" but he added it as a bonus track anyway to stat pad and boost the streams for the album.

Again, not a bad album and it's commercial success speaks for itself but it did change Drake's discourse in music quite a bit that didn't really change until 2022(but he reverted back in 2023 and on onward).

Yeah this how I feel. Pretty mixed album overall, but definitely contains some of his best songs ever
