my end goal is to becoming ambassador to Japan and then i’ll transfer back to the UK within the civil service and then i’ll hopefully become a senior professional in the fco
Hoping it all works out fam! always thought I'd go down the ambassador route once upon a time, I applied fast stream like 3 times and never got past the situational test

just started uni and i already realised i have no interest in my degree and hate all of my classes...
was thinking security maybe? i heard its pretty good pay
working a job where when my shift ends i dont have to think about it anymore sounds great, the worst thing about school is that its constantly on my mind, stressing me out..
Leaving a software job with nothin real lined up, moving to Colorado.
Gonna study data structures and algorithms, finish a big project I'm working on, and focus on LeetCode for like 2 or 3 months.
I honestly need time to heal though this job had me burnt out and exhausted for a while.
Awaiting on my acceptance to study Interaction Design
basically ux design
just finished aa transferring over
that’s dope! i’m currently a product designer.
where at? and for undergrad or grad?
idk if I can advance my career at this point w/o a masters or at least some extensive online courses. I guess what interests me has to do with marketing and it was always interesting to me how the whole marketing thing works bc it has to do with psychology and bc I get a kick out of lying lol
watching all these people I knew with their programming gigs tho
I have a teaching credential and MA in English, been applying aggressively for a teaching job and getting about a 10-20% response rate. That's really good, but it's a tough time for the field. A lot of uncertainty. Had an interview today and I interview for LAUSD eligibility on Thursday.
In my spare time, I also write books I'm developing an animated franchise with a graphic novel as a platform-builder that I'm making a pitch package for. Coming along really nice. If it hits, I want to turn it into a full series.
3-5 years from now, I'd like to be settled in at a district high school pulling in 75k with full benefits while I'm getting the finishing touches on a publishing contract and pondering whether to take the leap.
Yo! I’m a fellow masochist who just graduated undergrad with an English major and professional writing minor. Seems like an even more f***ed time to be invested in one of the humanities, but I’ve also heard from many people that now they’re in demand.. but I’m not hopeful about that
I worked for my school’s paper, and have been arguably as successful in academia as one can be as an undergrad. Not sure those things mean anything, but I’m struggling to find direction rn. I want to work in media in some capacity— I’m a pretty decent writer (won an academic achievement award for my major, several critical essay prizes, presented an article at my school’s literary conference) ... Any advice on career paths? Professors have encouraged me to go to grad school but now seems like a horrendous time for that.
I also have good experience working with kids on the autism spectrum, which seems like a more promising career prospect..
Sorry for giving you my resume but you seem like an authority lol

May be better to go to grad school with the economy down. Those who enter the work force during a recession have lower earning potential sometimes.

good look
For IT:
Experience - Certs - Degree(s)
Which one or combination of two is more important long term?
tbh all
but to rank them experience > certs => degrees
i live in the DMV area and i struggle to find any position above a sys admin 1 that didn't require a BS. hell i see some help desk positions that require one. following covid-19 i expect it to become even more important. and some advice from personal experience; school becomes a bigger pain in the ass the longer you wait to get through it, so try to knock a degree out sooner rather than later.
that being said, IT is a big place and not all positions are the same. some roles like network engineering will probably place more importance on seeing a CCNA rather than a BS. but being a business a***yst/systems a***yst, they'll want to see the degree.
and ofc experience will always be king

Cool man! what did you study to become a product designer?
I'm awaiting acceptance for the University of Washington undergraduate program.
I was born here, which is the main reason why I applied, but I also think that UW and Carnegie Melon are probably one of the best design programs in the country just due to their huge reputation for computer science. CS goes hand in hand with design - hopefully my education is really good and technological because of that - i'm excited

I actually went the non-traditional route and studied Econ and Stat in undergrad. It’s helped me tremendously though in terms of ux research and aligning design decisions to business goals.
UW and CMU have great programs. If you can get in state tuition tho, that’d be dope. Good luck!!

When you say product designer - what do you really mean? Whats your process like?
Do you work in the physical realm or digital?
Thanks for your nice words! I appreciate you.

Digital! I do user research, UX and UI design (company is very lean and we have a small team)
Process is diff depending on the project, priorities, and whether i’m creating something from scratch vs redesigning an existing flow/iterating.
Kinda stressed out doing all of this rn bc i’m on multiple development teams due to lack of design resources and hiring freeze at the company
I want to stay in the medical field but after talking to a emt I think I might want to get my license and the hospital will pay for me to go to school
You should be a PA tbh
Makes great money
Works great hours
Not as stressful because you still have a doctor to help guide you if needed
Tons of jobs available
