CLB hard 8/10 for me however it deals with similar problems his other albums have length , useless features etc . Original project probably better but we can say the same with views and scorpion
Well said easily one of the best projects after 2015 for me as well
Drake needs a redemption arc.
He makes good music and good albums, but niggas want more than that. He needs to go left field for a bit or start pandering to the artsy niggas. Get a new aesthetic, get new production. Unfortunately that’s the only way he’s going to satisfy the naysayers, but I think it’s a good idea

I saw redemption arc and thought you were going down that path iykyk 💀
Even if he does do that I think people will still say “he’s biting, copying, stealing” insert artist here at his stage you can’t really win if you’re him I feel like. That’s why he has loaded up all these albums with a ton of songs for everybody. Minus DLDT
he's scared to fully go in and have someone take his spot. can't blame him tbh
I feel like that is true cause he’s literally changed hip hop ever since he popped off
@op I agree with pretty much every thing you said
I give the album like a 7.5/10 but it’s still hella enjoyable to listen to
Like you said there’s just so many changes I woulda made, like papis home you hit it right on the money with that. First verse is classic but wtf is that second half
I just think with COVID/pandemic, his injury, along with the Ye beef it kinda derailed the original and true artistic path of the project. And not to make it as excuses but just seeing as to explain why we got what we got. I feel like in the end he put it out just to get the weight of it off his shoulders.
It's probably his least interesting project that he's dropped ever for me.
It's drake, so every LP he's going to have some really top tier records.
FOR ME THOUGH, the lows on this album are some of the lowest of lows for his career.
Way 2 Sexy is awful. He's too talented to resort to this kind of low hanging fruit for a smash. Girls want girls is meh, can do without. He and Lil Durk can do soooo much better than In the Bible.
Papi's Home is ridiculous, which is crazy given the production that's on it. Love All was a goat leak that turned into some boring s***. I know Knife Talk is one of the 'hits' on this but that record could have honestly did w/o drake on it.
The highs are vintage drake, but at this point in his career I wish he'd play for history more instead of chasing hits which FOR ME is wild because he's so talented he does not need to do some of the s*** he did on this LP.
Still listen to the highlights though but...I didn't expect Dark Lane to be better than this and IMO it very clearly is.
still can't believe he replaced the best part of Love All with a mid Hov verse
Girls Want Girls actually a bottom 5 Drake song
Might be the worst if Lil Baby doesn’t come through
I love it...top 5 track on the album
it comes across to me like the album was intended to be the death of his toxic bachelor persona and him owning up to the mistakes he's made in the past, which still kinda comes through on the final product but not committed to nearly as well as it should have been. not that i needed it to be a full blown concept album, but something more focused than your typical drake album would have been nice.
it's kind of a catch 22 though because if you cut the songs that don't align with the themes of the album then it makes it feel more well thought out but it also makes the album worse because songs like no friends, 7 AM, and knife talk are among the best on the album. the best i can think to do is to replace the paranoid songs on CLB with the heartbroken songs on dark lane, which might actually work but i haven't tried it yet.
Disclaimer long read and for people who really wanna talk about the length of this album or anything about it.
I think the album is fine a 10/10 for me I enjoy every song. This is just all hypothetical and if I had to shorten it this is how I would. Feel free to share your changes as well. For this i’m keeping all the tracks for the sake of them already existing. Just cutting them from the album and shortening it you’ll see below.
1. Champagne Poetry
2. Papi’s Home
3. Girls Want Girls
4. In The Bible
5. Fair Trade
6. TSU
7. N 2 Deep
8. Pipe Down
9. Race My Mind
10. Get Along Better
11. IMY2
12. F***ing Fans
13. The Remorse
Songs left off
Love All - should of kept the other version or gave this to Jay Z
Way 2 Sexy - A future song give that to him
Yebba’s Heartbreak - fire track but could of been kept for her project, maybe possible Drake feature on there instead of here
No Friends In The Industry - dope track but this and 7am could of been a loosie drop via SoundCloud or something
Knife Talk - Should of been on Savage Mode 2
7AM - a SoundCloud or Sirius XM drop would of been dope for this
Fountains - easily could of been given to Tems
You Only Live Twice - save this for the Drake & Ross project that hopefully we see one day
OP knows exactly what he’s talking about

Completely agree with that
WE DONT WANT LESS SONGS WE WANT MORE DRAKE ONLY TRACKS
SIMPLE
They still would of dropping i’m not wiping these songs off the face of the earth. Just different ways to drop them since the most complaints I hear about the album are that it is bloated.

Yeah
Need a Drake album without features tbh

I picked to cut those songs and give them life somewhere else to shorten the album first off. They are good songs but take a look at all the other AM/PM tracks minus 6AM they all dropped separately. I tried to keep as many tracks but people complained the album is too long.
So in my own eyes I took that and thought what could be put anywhere else. While still being used and not destroyed from existence. It was hard to pick but in my own eyes I feel like my picks were justified and those gems could of went another route.
Yeah

Without features should be interesting but look at NWTS it had 4 (not counting deluxe version). People love that album as much as they do Take Care and that had a ton of features. It is hard to come to a definite conclusion. I would be interested to see a project of his with 0 features tho still.

NWTS is a classic
Idk but i feel that Take Care have more recognition and success than NWTS, two classics
Maybe throw in like I’m supposed to and lie to me
I tried to just work with what the album had cause it would of been so easy to throw in insert leaked song here. My main goal was to trim it down and take the tracks that I cut and give them life another way.
I still kept everything just wanted to shorten it. One of the major things was the album length i’ve seen. You look at anything post 2015 (minus DLDT) and they’re all long projects. Personally i’m not complaining but some do care. Now where all those projects rank for everybody varies of course.

Yes it does looking at the 2 but the contrast between the 2 with Take Care having 9 features and 18 tracks (no bonus ones counted) and NWTS with 13 and 4 features (base album as well) is interesting. Something to be talked about for sure of course he was in his bag back then.
Also helps that all the features did their parts as well. But it shows he is capable of making long and short projects and people loving them. I wonder what really changed after Views where people switched up.
What song or songs?
Girls wants girls
I’m the bible
Pipe down
Race my mind
Get along better
I love CLB!!
