Can’t stand super heroes Underground comix only
every person aside from will eisner or that weird racist dude who writes cerberus that is foundational to indie comics got their start in the big 2 with superheroes. also vertigo invented all that scott snyder hill house bullshit you're reading anyway

One piece is the consensus goat but that’s in genre shonen , slam dunk is really good basketball scenes are drawn insanely well
Thanks , will check it out

Even beyond manga one piece is up there in echelons of fictional storytelling. When it’s over might go down as best story ever written in 21st century not even hyperbole
Got it, thank you
fun fact both vagabond, and slam dunk are written by the same person

how long is the manga?

I'll definitely compare and contrast them

when will this s*** finish tho?
When the new 52 happened, is when I jumped on dc comics, but everything fell a part when they did the reboot now I'm lost lol
Claims of comics being inaccessible are very exagerated imo.
I just follow whatever writer I like on each run they have put out and basically never felt disoriented.
Yes some texture would be amplified if you knew your lore but it's nothing major.
Always felt like this. I can never find the legit starting point and following issues to maintain a consistent storyline

the thing to realize is that every new run is a soft reboot anyway. there’s so much s*** in my favorite comics runs that just don’t match up to even the run directly previous you just kind of roll with it

bro there’s no starting point really. manga kind of spoiled us in that regard (fairly tight contained story) but comics are way more about contrasting what the superhero symbolizes with the story the writer is trying to tell

like the best spider-man comics are always about guilt right? like he’s driven by guilt to be spider-man but being spider-man makes him miss the big moments in his life, which he feels guilty for which subconsciously drive him to be spider-man. it’s a cycle.

Exactly continuity is a very fluid concept in comics. Every writer just does their thing.

there should be a guide for every writer then
There’s so many options you may as well go off your personal preferences and ignore everything else. For example I like Batman stories where he’s older so that guides a lot of what I give my attention to in the DC universe. Batman Beyond is good because you get the perspective of an old Bruce Wayne and a completely new kid as Batman.
Speaking of Batman, some writers capture the essence of the character more than others and you could just stick to their work. Frank Miller comes to mind.
