@op this is the first part to a pretty good and not too confusing guide on the marvel universe starting in 1998 so it's more about the modern Era of marvel comics, I've read through like a quarter of it, had to take a break because there's a lot of content but it's really nice
This is dope, thanks for this! I'm gonna get started on comixology unlimited this afternoon

Have fun!
If you are like one of those completionist types of people that feels like they need to read every single story it is
You can just focus on like certain characters and certain writers runs with those characters and if you are confused about a small detail look it up
WHY THE F*** ARE COMICS SO INACCESSIBLE mainly talking about the big 2 there’s so many cool stories out there but it’s all turned into a convoluted mess through multiverses like I wanna be able to keep up with marvel and dc but I just don’t see any entry points. Then I see people hyping up big events and stories like age of apocalypse and three jokes but they say u need to catch up on the stories before
There's plenty of accessible points it's universes and stories designed specifically for people like you.
Ultimate for Marvel would be a good one or you can Google it's plenty of list made
Whenever people call western comics inaccessible it's always weird to me it's like if you seen Bond films or any famous franchise with multiple iterations you just do like you do with that.

marvel/dc should make a free guide for people like me and op tbh

Yeah I've always felt like they could do better with making that stuff available but US comics like Manga are so tied into appealing to the already converted they don't try for new people.
It's really intimidating but if you like the MCU I'd say check out the Ultimate Marvel stuff which the MCU was based on.
It's also its own self contained world so it's no worries on catching up

Actually learned when it comes to comics it’s better off to just jump in there’s years of convoluted continuity that no normal person would be able to catch up with at once hence the multiple relaunches. Also anyone here there’s no need to be Intimidated comicbookherald provides amazing guides the most daunting task are events because of crossovers but if get into them from the start they can be pretty self contained if you treat them as it’s own story. This mainly applies to marvel.
I think most people are intimidated with comics deal with a severe case of fomo(fear of missing out) just speaking from personal experience and companies definitely capitalize off that with their rapid release patterns and events which alienates any new readers. The same can be applied to the video game industry that’s the main reason folks have about 55 games from different generation in their backlog while only playing about 2 games at the moment recreationally. Nintendo are the biggest offenders of this and Disney is a no brainer
^ this coming from a nigga who hasn’t even beat more than 2 games before or finished a book lol
manga > western comics
Any Manga recommendations? Have never read one. Where do i start

The problem with events is that it gets hard to track starting points sometimes like it would be kinda tedious trying to figure out where to start hickman marvel run

There are graphic novels that tie everything in

Nah if anything is tedious it's not Hickman, that man loves pointing you in the right direction with his charts.

ok im gonna give you this reading list for marvel, ive been reading for 20 years + so i hope this helps
Start at avengers dissasembled and go to bendis' new avengers run from there the first volume is called breakout. read all the bendis era you can because that is the foundation which modern marvel is built on. After dark reign and siege then try the Hickman stuff. Start with Hickman's Fantastic Four, then go into the Avengers run. When you're in the run the books will tell you which to read next but if you have any questions dm me,
if you're looking for a great modern story thats unrelated to the wider marvel universe go with Immortal Hulk
if you're looking for a great spider-man story look ultimate spider-man from 2000 that s*** is top 3 spidey ever
my only main thing honestly is get used to comics a little bit before you go into x-men because even though its the crown jewel of marvel comics even i get confused from time to time with it
The problem with events is that it gets hard to track starting points sometimes like it would be kinda tedious trying to figure out where to start hickman marvel run
to your point about events theres an easy rule of thumb here Events that happened post 2010: don't really matter in marvel they're purely sales driven exercises that don't end up changing anything fundamentally
Events that happened from 2000-2009: incredibly important and have far reaching implications that effect the entire marvel universe for years to come Civil-War is the biggest example
Events that happened pre-2000 there are like 4 of them and aside from inifinity guantlet aren't really referenced very much tho kree skrull war is kind of cool can take or leave
