There’s real as in what it truly is (the answers itt) and “real”. “Real” these days is someone the kids and suburbans can live their hood fantasies through. Like it’s a movie and not real struggle, s*** that makes ppl feel like they’re watching Scarface

    Let’s call a spade a spade

Real is somebody who owns up to who they are & are comfortable with telling their truth & living their story.

Doesn’t matter if they’re a nerd from a suburb, if they rapping about hitting cyber licks & quantum processors, they’re real.

real is just what it is. Its just what exists my g.

Yeah, I made this thread partially from that von thread but this whole week that s***'s been bugging me. Thinking back to that NY drill thread months ago and those reddits where niggas look at these kids/rappers like video game characters.

And I also had just finished watching vince staples' pitchfork interview where he himself was saying "just be yourself, you might be a fake ass nigga. You aint being real by being real"

But real to me is just is. Like, making art is real. It's a product right? When you hear 'fake' what's the first artist you think of? (rhetorical, I know it'll turn into a slander thread)

Like it's this thing where the rapper that has a childish gambino/lil yachty type of background isn't looked at as 'real' because they're not percieved as "took any risks for their families and friends" and to me that's kinda...interesting 'nahmean? Like the only time we look at "taking a risk for your people" as real is if it's some actual life or death type s***. Like we don't know how many economical risks that a Tekashi 69 took for trying to provide for his family. Is he a fake for snitching? Sure, I'd say so. But is he still real for trying to provide knowing that if he failed there was a good chance that he'd die?

Like what makes an artist real and what makes an artist fake?

I hope I answered your question, if not let me know.
