Always had issues with his films and left disappointed until BR2049. The most beautiful film visually I think ever made and the story was beautifully done as well.
But yeah he’s the last thing from consistent
there's a thread praising Villeneuve like every two weeks.
And that's just on here, which I'd wager is pretty sparse compared to more popular on the internet (reddit, twitter, etc).
If people still think Villeneuve's track record is underappreciated, then there's really no hope for all the consistent filmmakers from the past 20-30 years that have been more or less edged out of popular discussion :/

Why do y’all keep lying?
There’s literally no recent threads praising Denis when you search his name just his upcoming films

True, that's why i o***** so hard over Gaspar Noé in every thread because hey someone has to bring awareness to the actual underappreciated GOATS of cinema

Maybe not threads on KTT but he gets mentioned quite a lot in film sxn overall compared to a lot of other directors. He's waaaaaay past the point of being underrated fam that's just facts. BR2049, Arrival, Sicario, Prisoners all reached a big audience over the course of those being out. If Villeneuve is underrated, than we might as well get rid of the word underated completely
Most people that i talk to that are into film name him as one of the first people when it comes to the greatest active filmmakers in hollywood

Villeneuve incosistent??? man, that's like.... one of the best things about him... that he's consistent regardless of what type of film he makes
Incendies, Arrival & BR2049 are all perfect
Prisoners & Sicario really great as well

He's talked about a decent bit in his own right — though most often as a point of controversy whenever one of his films premieres. But compared to someone like Villeneuve he might as well be virtually unheardof haha

Yeah i was talking about it from the perspective of OP calling Villeneuve someone who is underrated

I do have to see Incendies but Arrival is a snorefest
Sicario is cool and I loved Prisoners until It’s absolute boring and awful third act which torpedoed the entire film. Found Enemy to be mediocre as well

Yeah for sure

You got to see Incendies it's arguably his best film, so much emotion in that one. Tied with Arrival for me. BR2049 being my absolute favorite thing he's done. But i've got a weak spot for those type of sci-fi flicks
I loved how Arrival was about communication, i wasn't even bored for a second. So glad we got a film involving alien life that played out like that. Rather see that than another cliché alien invasion action movie
And don't think this gets discussed enough.
Blade Runner
Arrival
Sicario
Prisoners
Enemy
Incendies
one of my favorite directors currently
Not discussed enough? In what universe?
OP is talking directly to fight club guy, mulholland drive friend & a24 girl in his 10th grade media class. To which I gotta agree in that specific class of burdgeoning teenagers denis is criminally underrepresented

Idk, I feel like A24 girl and Fight Club guy would be gabbing about Villeneuve as well. Even Mulholland Drive friend would probably say he's a cool director

man that Sicario scene

They seem like a cool friend group

Well of course he gets mentioned lol but niggas deadass saying this type of thread gets made very often.
When I say Denis consistency doesn’t get mentioned enough isn’t exclusive to KTT. More referring in general, like I’ve never heard anyone IRL mention Denis being a consistent director.
