It’s not that people should know who makes it but the films, the visuals speak for itself. It’s truly about education. He hasn’t missed, I know he doesn’t missed with this. Be happy this saw the light of day, it really wasn’t for years.

Lol fam u said this type of thread gets made every two weeks when in actuality this type of thread hasn’t been made. Stop hating on me showing Denis some love sheesh lol

"thread" or "topic" idc. this gets discussed in film sxn very often. it doesn't matter if there are actual threads like that. It is an opinion hold by many people here.

Concerning Villeneuve. I think he's a good (Enemy Prisoners, Incendies are my favs) director and even though I'm not as big of a fan as you or other people are I'm looking forward to Dune. Blade Runner 2049 was my favorite of his until the third act, which still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Lol fam I know it gets discussed. I’m not saying it doesn’t. I’m saying it doesn’t get discussed ENOUGH. I’m not sure why that bothered yall this much?

But I feel you fam. I’ve seen the same critique on the 3rd act of Sicario (more so the whole tunnel) scene and Emily Blunt character. But that might be due to the writing more so? Which Taylor Sheridan is an amazing writer to me too even tho I’m a little iffy after his last two movies

In case you missed I’ll re-post what I told you earlier:

That’s fine, I’m sure there’s people who share a similar opinion as me. But like I said it doesn’t get discussed enough, just cus some film fans online discuss it doesn’t mean that’s “enough”....yall being weirdos for no reason lmao thread ain’t that serious for yall to freak out about

    "some film fans online"

Guess we're also ignoring all the articles written about him that make a point to mention his consistency, or reference general praise in response to his consistent output.

But since you haven't heard anyone in real life — in your immediate environment — mention it, then I guess it's truly not being discussed enough in general.

I remember I used to think Eisenstein's influence on cinema was widely known, but one day I realized that I've never heard anyone say Eisenstein's name in-person. That was 8 years ago and I'm still dedicated to spreading awareness about him, until the day finally comes when one of my coworkers says: "You know about Eisenstein's influence on cinema right?" Then he will finally be discussed as much as he deserves, and I can rest easy.

It’s crazy to me that you don’t realize the word “enough” is subjective and based on opinion, hence why I said “ I THINK it doesn’t get discussed enough”

Like yall really arguing with me because I personally think it doesn’t get discussed enough. That’s weird bro and not even the point of the thread. But I get it yall love to argue over anything

Until Denis consistency gets mentioned as much as Tarrintino’s consistency it ain’t enough lol

    Stop being mean to me

with what Aruji was saying, I do think the 3rd act tends to be what hurts Denis the most in most of his films (though I do think Sicario's 3rd act is actually its strongest element)

I will say for BR2049, I initially felt let down by the 3rd act but eventually learned to make peace with it and I do ultimately see it to be a pretty beautiful sentiment. His worst 3rd act crumble is by far Prisoners for me though. Arrival and Enemy's 3rd acts were pretty lame as well.

Denis' consistency is already routinely compared to Fincher, which is probably as good as you can realistically expect.

But Tarantino comparisons (of any kind) will never be made since he's become a pop-culture signifier.

Fincher is relatively pretty inconsistent but man if we going by their highs, Denis aint even holding a candle to him

Crazy how this come to conclusion in fact I might watch some Claire Denis soon.

Oh im just talking about general thought.

They way people talked (and still talk) about Fincher's film work from like Se7en to Gone Girl, is similar to how people have been complimenting Villeneuve from Prisoners onward.

Fincher's brief hiatus from film coming a year after Prisoners released also seems like perfect timing for when Villeneuve started seriously building his reputation with American mainstream audience too.

  • May 19, 2021

All his films are technically good. He just doesn't have enough eccentricity for me to be hyped as hell for every project like other directors do.

Exactly. It’ll never happen. Nor do I personally like Denis more than QT, but he doesn’t get mentioned anywhere close to him. But I know you personally don’t care for his work as much lol

interesting, I've always felt hes been moreso compared in the same light as Nolan. But he's certainly the next big name that internet dudes be hyping up as they were with Fincher, Nolan, PTA, etc.

I mean, it'll never happen because Tarantino extends beyond just the internet at this point. He could get the same status as Fincher or PTA down the road, but Tarantino is on another level.

lol was gonna rewatch Prisoners tonight. But I actually love Arrival all the way through, twist and all.

Sicario admittedly I was a little confused with the tunnel scene, like I get the point of it but it kinda seemed Iike a big dramatic gesture for a smaller task that could of happened easier? idk if I’m drunk but wasn’t the point of Emily Blunt’s character to (without her knowing) help Benicio get into Mexico to seek his revenge? felt like all of that could of been done better, or a better pay off from such a great set up?

Fincher is definitely inconsistent, Mank was boring as hell to me and I’ve been tryna give it another watch.

But I agree with the highs cus Social Network and even Gone Girl >>>>>>>>>>

For sure none of Denis work csnt touch Social Network, ironically I have it playing in the background rn

Might be an unfair critique but I prefer Directors who writer their own film too. Besides co-writing Dune, Denis hasn’t written a film since Incendies

from what I recall, she doesn’t find out what Benicio is up to until she catches him there. She was only there because of a technicality there as well so Brolin didn’t actually want her. The tunnel raid was to eliminate a cartel that benicio helped them locate in exchange for giving him the resources and intel to find that dude

Sicario 3rd act was like the most badass s*** tbh. When my boy benicio pull up to that dinner table

Zodiac is one of my all time favorite movies and definitely agree for Gone Girl and TSN. I also love se7en and Dragon tattoo and even Benjamin Button. But yeah he got his fair share of mid in The Game, Panic Room, Mank, etc

Yeah the dinner scene was fire and ruthless but the tunnel scene seemed like it could of been handled better. Like it took all that just for Benecio to get into Mexico? Maybe I’m remembering wrong lol
