y’all gotta stop knocking bey for having writers/ not producing enough on her own lol (especially when some of the artists y’all stan has writers) to me having a great vision, ideas, and execution trumps being able to play like 100 different instruments/ writing everything on your own
It’s not, I’m telling you exactly what he did even while working with Quincy. Quincy even said he did this to him
You got a source for this? Because MJ has been known to take the backseat for his earlier work: soultracks.com/story-michael-jackson-starlight
I remember Teddy Riley went on record to say he produced Dangerous--while chilling and f***ing Salli Richardson--without MJ's involvement
and y’all ain’t gonna wanna hear it but this is up there with any mj performance too
Yes. Mj in a completely different league though
Not tryna say you wrong but why exactly? Just because it “feels” like that “should” be the case? Or is there a logical argument to back up the claim that MJ is in a “whole nother league” above Beyoncé?
I feel like so many of us (not necessarily saying you) blindly align ourselves with certain long held cultural opinions (ie MJ over everybody, Illmatic over every rap album etc) without doing any actual a***ysis for ourselves.
shes a legend and an icon but please dont get it twisted. shes not even top 10 all time when it comes to the music man.

Yeah and the other artists you're comparing her to had amazing ideas and execution too

Mj was just astronomically famous, scandal/sales/personal life.. he was just larger than life obviously I can’t pinpoint how big he is now or the paradigm shifted but I don’t see the others mentioned could ever be as big a personality as mj, maybe Beyoncé. If we’re talking strictly music than that’s fair…

commercially and culturally speaking, there's no arguing that MJ is in another league

Don't confuse fame with infamy
Beyoncé only needs to kill Hov to reach that level of scandal. This is a wild metric to use

I haven’t listened to enough of her music but I wouldn’t be mad at someone for putting her up there

Yeah that's the King

Here’s the original demo to beat it where Michael shows his recording process and what he would hand to a producer for completion.
Here’s live audios from the recording of thriller as well as producers breaking down and explaining Michael's recording process, including Quincy Jones.
Enjoy

Mj was famous famous though I don’t think infamous is a fair adjective to use. He’s like the perfect example of FAME
#itneverhappened
i feel like the album would've been in the public consciousness more if the damn MVs dropped...the fast food era mentality is squandering the potential for successful rollouts

compare lemonade/renaissance to michaels later work too then,
compare lemonade/renaissance to michaels later work too then,
Beyonce doesn't have a single album as impactful as even MJ's third biggest album and if we're talking singles, nothing topping Billie Jean, Thriller, Beat It, Rock With You, etc
I'm just not entertaining the idea that Beyonce has the musical legacy of MJ, it just isn't true and I'm not even a stan like that
Get back to me in 30 years if people are still listening to Lemonade and Renaissance like they still listen to Thriller and Off the Wall
it’s about to be 10 years since self titled and people are still listening to that
