I've been wondering considering how s***ty artists are these days. The bar is literally in hell but I've been thinking if artist development now would give us the artists that we desperately need. Also look how it's working in Kpop.

I think if it is brought back it can help usher a new wave of high quality artists like back in the 90s. Bring back that unattainable level of talent that is desperately needed in this generation.

Artist development died the moment independent teenagers started making hits on soundcloud that got them signed.

I agree @op but there's a reason why it's not a thing no more. Why bother?

    Especially when it's cheaper. lol.

  • I miss the previous decades with artistry 🥺🥺😭

Everyone wants to sling some fast food “music” into the internet hoping the young and dumb will allow them to become viral

I miss when music actually meant art and not some vehicle for quick bucks 😞

I mean look at the material. There aren't many really talented performers that exist in this generation. All the best ones came from development days

Doesn't matter when you dumb down your audience

That's why Carti fans love his live shows lol.

These apps are killing music. The crap that's pushed on Tik tok, like wtf is that?

We need another once in a lifetime talent again and currently I don't see that anywhere.

It will likely be brought back after our current stars hang it up, or stop putting out music on a regular basis. At the moment these labels have no real incentive to build anyone up. It's actually to the point where we should question if they have the talent to even do it anymore.

“Artistry” is the corniest s*** y’all cry about, especially since the artist y’all claim don’t have it just present they art differently to what you like

Idk if artist development would work in the current landscape as far as hip hop and s*** but a lot of these r&b mfs desperately need it lol

young niggas getting paid I can’t even hate on it

    And neither should you

There’s thousands of artists that have artistically developed over the years, maybe focus on finding them instead of complaining

Labels are going back to the old fashioned days of promoting the pop star who got the most appeal and can make appetizing music to the “normie”

Which is why I noticed a resurgence of pop artists in the mainstream ever since this decade

nah, you can tell by the interviews and the way they carry themselves + how they perform that artist development is severely lacking.

That's not even an opinion that's facts. A Summer Walker with artist development would be amazing PR lol.

It does matter in the grander scheme of things. I don't think folks will talk about carti's performances years to come but look at beychella and all those amazing performances we still watch from the 90s.

Great music and great performances matter.
You rarely get the two combined these days back in the day it was the standard.

Artists got people in shock with vocal ability alone.

This relatable star s*** is a s***show let's go back to gatekeeping and being elitist.

So you okay with the standard continuing to plummet. How low will it go because this s*** is beyond nauseating now.
Bring back quality mainstream music that actually sounds like someone put their everything into creating that song.
This cheap s*** is not it.

no because its much more of a gamble on the label's part. the internet era has changed music. no amount of money the label spends can purchase a real fanbase in an era where consumers have the ability to pick who they listen to. so they would rather pick up an indie artist who already has fans because it proves they can be successful. then they just pump funds into growing what they were already doing. Artist development is not what will bring out talent in these people. dedication to their craft is.

I prefer the independent route. Artist development doesn’t work well in the hip hop world. That s*** may be cool for pop tho

I don’t know how long you’ve been listening to hip hop but it’s always been this way

And when I say always I mean ALWAYS

If you’re looking for music with substance in the mainstream that’s your first mistake

There’s literally thousands of artists out right now that have been working on their craft for years and years and it shows through their music man.. stop listening to garbage ass music

Oh I think after the pandemic I think even the artists would agree lol.

Social media making niggas either too corny or making the fans think they waaaay too familiar with the artists.

    Bring the mystery back lol.

I can barely think of a hit since early 2000s that felt like someone put there all into it
