those last 3 singles came and went and CLB hype is dead so that time is coming soon
Scary Hours is only a 3 song ep and is still one of the most streamed projects of the year other than Sour. We got to retire this "came and went" line already. It's so played out and just comes from being out of touch. Not hating you personally but it's dead.
Rap isn't going anywhere. It's just going to constantly change up, anyone that thinks that rap is boring right now doesn't listen to anything and shouldn't be taken seriously.
We've got Trap Metal, Sigil, Detroit Rap, Detroit 80s Electro Rap, NY Drill, Hex/Surge, Plugg, Tread
Literally heard some dudes that mixed Hyperpop and Drill and the s*** works and sounds super fresh
If rap dies, then music in total would be dead.

CLB hype is not dead lol
Wants & needs is one of the most streamed songs rn

Bro it's 2021 lets stop talking about Drake lmao

And Drake is the most streamed artist of the year with over 2 billion vs everyone else being in the 100,000-900,000 range. He's not going anywhere even if we don't like him. I personally love that a hip-hop artist like him is representing the genre. Juice Wrld and YB would be tied if Drake didn't exist rn, is that what you want?

You obviously don’t like Drake which is cool, but to act like he’s not the biggest or one of the biggest artists rn is crazy

juixe and yb actually put effort into their music
drakes monotone/bored flow on the same trap beats is a snoozefest

He is, I can't deny it. But the dude doesn't make music that's "that" at best he picks up new talent/sounds that he thinks are fresh to keep relevant. That new Scary Hours ep had one track that was legit Carti inspired and if that doesn't tell you that he's siphoning energy from the youth like a vamp idk what to tell you

he's past his prime.
during scorpion era nice for what, god plan, in my feelings were all over the radio and s***
legit havent heard any of those new songs on the radio.
No. Black Beetles took down Closer in 2016 and Bad and Boujee was next year in 2017. If you don't count Trap Queen then Black Beetles did the bigger blow to pop. Bad and Boujee lost #1 to Shape Of You so it definitely didn't kill pop.
Song only got big cause of that mannequin challenge
Genres are kinda dead
But I think the post-r&b stuff that’s been made over the last 5-10 years is reminiscent of the innovation rap had from 2005-2015 that ultimately led to the mainstream run it’s had
it varies a lot so it’s weird to lump it into one genre but people like Frank Ocean, FKA Twigs, The Weeknd, James Blake etc who have roots in r&b but are clearly making music that isn’t r&b are who I mean. There’s plenty of others too but yea I could see something stemming from that - to me those are some of the best and most innovative albums of the decade and have quietly bubbled just under true superstar level (Weeknd obviously not but Trilogy was)
best response in thread - it's all about amalgamations of genres now, microgenres

you get it
depends on if the autotune coi leray type songs still are considered rap by the end of the decade lol
I think Drake is to thank for keeping hip-hop on top along with himself so it's not going anywhere until he retires.
This is true
