As living soulful beings do you really think we were designed to be office monkeys?

    What’s your secret?

Enjoy your family and don't stress a single iota about work

My life’s in control, good job, beautiful girlfriend, cat, supportive friends

But.. but, I literally do the same s*** everyday in an office and have to wake up driven

    I don’t see how depression isn’t possible

you need a change in perspective or a change in your life. like I said, approaching age 30 you have the autonomy, skills, experience, etc necessary to change undesirable parts of your life

if you don't like your job then get a new one. make a plan to change careers. try a trade, teach yourself something on your off days.

this is where change in perspective comes into play. be more solution oriented rather than problem focused. your life is in your hands and you got so much time to improve it

Sure it sucks, but being depressed about having to work isn't going to change the reality you are likely going to have to work. Now instead of getting through the work day and being able to enjoy your personal time, you just miss everything.

Find a job that is tolerable for your lifestyle. You don't need the ambition to become a CEO if that's not what you want, who the hell cares.

    real productive comment!

it really is. he's saying people approaching 30. these aren't 18 year olds with no freedom or life skills.

if there's something you don't like about your life then formulate a plan to change it. there's always a way to do it and sometimes it'll require hard work but that's life

it's better than wallowing in your own problems and never trying to improve your life

I get that there are ways to escape the trap of a 9-5

But as long you have one and have bills to pay you’re far from free

I very much enjoy my personal time

But as long as I’m in a 9-5 like the vast majority of us (brilliant people included) I will be hit with waves of depression

Sounds like you made up your mind so not sure what you want someone else to tell you?

I don't experience that and have things in my life to look forward to, going to work 9-5 everyday sucks but I don't get depressed over it.

    Find something else then.

    I agree with you brother

I understand how we are soulful beings in an infinite universe and how we are meant to enjoy life and be happy..and how a 9-5 can seem monotonous and routine-like

but damn, to be depressed over it? like you have something to do, you making a living..

i can't imagine OP or bro's if they were legit crackheads on the street with NOTHING

I'm sure I get waves of "boring" type moods ( i wouldn't even call it depression, thats when those sad thoughts are like uncontrollable)

  • Aug 16, 2023

aproaching 30 just makes you see things differently... and I get how "quit your job - follow your dreams" is the go-to answer but--

..the fact that I have an office job, a car, history with people, hobbies, temporarily making music/art, a beautiful family, a loving relationship that I worked hard on with a good girl, funny longtime friends is a BLESSING..you don't know how bad some people have it fr

plus yea I got bills to pay and must maintain my leisurely office job to pay for 'em (boohoo), but I'd say I'm BLESSED. this same job allows me to go on vacations, and buy food, and find the little joys in life.

Tbh I’ve got philosophies about life

I wouldn’t even say we’re supposed to be happy and joyful

Hardship is a BIG part of our lives

It’s just the human in me crying about it. I’ll get over it I guess… 2 hours to go

Definitely but there's a lot of BULLSHYT office jobs that basically have no positive benefit to society at all or are actually even actively harmful

And even the s***ty labor that needs to be done can be made less s***ty as well

But anyway im a changed man and wont derail this to capitalism vs communism

yea, humans always go through cycles and moods

sometimes I get home and I look around and 1000% see things I want to improve and change in my life..

make more money, move out independantly, be debt free

but thats normal, I also wouldn't say i'm at the point of quitting everyday cuz I hatte my job and routine so bad

    for example.. summer is over
now ima start implementing a whole lifestyle change

sleeping earlier, waking up earlier, cleaning my room, going to gym, killing it at work, gotta stay on top of my last semester for my bachelors, eating better, cutting out soda, working on my next project, get serious about paying debt

I chose to actively NOT do those things in the summer, cuz there is too much fun to be had.

I mean I agree but unless you really got a passion to try to change things or your current situation is too much to continue how it is, I'd prefer to not be a doomer and nihilist and get as much enjoyment out of my life while I'm here, my family is my priority at this time in my life.

Its not like OP is working 20 hrs a day in factory, he got an office job, it cant be THAT bad. And if it is, try to find something else or work towards the change you want in the world.

    monotony is incredibly taxing

boredom (in the long-term) is perhaps the greatest emotional pain for humans

it's perfectly fair to be depressed by a monotonous life

that being said, i like that u are trying to put things in a different perspective for gabriel
