I understand the thought that DBZ characters can’t be brought to life, as Akira Toriyama’s highly stylized art is ingrained in us

But the answer is simple: get really sexy and likable actors to play the characters. I’m serious. If there’s one thing that will allow us to suspend not seeing past Toriyama’s specific style, it’s everyone looking sexy (ie The Avengers and Justice League)

Now ofc they have to be franchise material and good actors on top of being believable as the characters, and that’s easier said than done, but it’s definitely possible

They ignored Akira Toriyama when he was dealing with them. They thought as white men they knew better than a Japanese man WHO CREATED THE SERIES.
It was some good ole white supremacy with American arrogance and they used a nigga to take the heat for it

Honestly Avatar the last Air bender is WAY worst. DB Evolution wasn't even white washed. The story was just trash and far and away from the source material. Like they tried to make it a high school martial arts drama/action movie.

The perfect example of white washing was M. Night Shamalyan Avatar movie. The guy took a majority Asian themed series and changed it to mostly white kids and characters with slum dog millionaire kid. Man's said when he see air nomads he see Northen Tibet, but then cast white lead actor.

It takes place all over the Earth, we dont ever hear specific countries other than vague names like West City which was multicultural. Bulma’s moms an obvious parody of western trophy wives who marry rich old men. Not that it matters because I highly doubt Toriyama put much stock into the ethnicities of the characters outside of “Earthling” and “Alien”, but its clear not everyone on the show is supposed to be Japanese

The whole show takes place on a whole different earth. None of the locations are actual locations irl. DB earth isn’t the same as our earth at all but since it’s a Japanese anime we associate it with Japan but when you really count the cast there’s only like 5 actual Asian characters going by the names (Tien, Roshi, Krillin, Chi Chi and Yajirobi to name a few) or backgrounds of the characters but even then it’s never confirmed what exact ethnicity they are.

Everybody else is either an alien, an Android, a manbeast or a talking bug LOL most civilians just look like white ppl for the most part but they’re whatever race/ethnicity Toriyama intended them to be
