most people who aren’t biased and aren’t so regionally locked, that they’re gonna disingenuously put Future over JAY-Z or Nas you arguing that some random f***off who isn’t even into music is most likely gonna put Future higher on an all time list than these other artists isn’t really much of an argument at all

Big L wasn’t even that technical of a rapper dude, he primarily employed end rhymes with a cool internal scheme on occasion, he shined lyrically and with his punchlines, Ka is extremely abstract lyrically half the time and his style of rapping is pretty boring to me personally, he injects no energy into his rapping, at least someone like Milo can keep it abstract and somewhat interesting lyrically at the same time while utilizing a deadpan flow; the only dude on there that even fits the bill here is DOOM

i never said if you’re a good technical rapper that it makes you a good songwriter, i define songwriting while factoring in technical rapping ability and the way it’s utilized artistically within the context of a song, you’re the one that’s separating them

this pretentious idea of whos "into music" just shows how close minded you really are. Plenty of people are into music and would put future over nas. Including me, nas had one f***ing album. He just was early. Big L and Ka are incredibly technical you are literally the only human on this forum who would say this. I dont care what you think is boring.

  • this is the first time i’ve ever seen anyone call The Blueprint an artsy core album

Do Gucci and Future not have a catalogue of music filled with memorable lyrics, catchy songs, etc. I’m not getting what all the talk is about.

true however you made aclear point to say its the aesthetic that seperated him, when he just evolved

That is the aesthetic. It's everything. Carti intentionally making WLR sound brash and distorted is as intentional as his fashion and art direction on Die Lit and WLR

    It's all intentional

How is he pretending to be a vampire? Because he’s wearing Rick Owen’s and Givenchy s***? The vampire s*** comes from the movie lost boys. He said he liked the outfits in the movie. He’s not pretending to be a literal vampire.

And nobody besides RYM type snobs listen to music for aesthetics. That’s a purely online thing that sad adults do. No kid is doing that if they don’t genuinely like the music

“Nobody listens to music for aesthetics besides rym types”

Bro this just an absolute flat out lie that even the other Carti fans on your side itt would disagree with. Nobody in the f***ing world would try and argue that Tyler’s image wasnt a huge reason for him blowing up

you just said Travis was a better songwriter than Eminem earlier, you can consider yourself “into music” if you’d like, but you come off as someone who got into hip-hop post-2015 and now you’re overcompensating by hyping up trap acts

where did i call you an oldhead? are you even reading anything that im saying at this point?

bro literally what are you talking about nobody in their right mind considers Blueprint a f***ing artsy album you sound insane

and like i said in my previous posts, you can act like lyrics are not important to be an all time great, but in most genres yes you do

Your acting as if me criticizing old heads is hypocritical because i brought up old music for a point. Thats the implication. I never said you can never bring up old music or call it great, thats not what makes an old head. I didnt say its an artsy album my point is in the traditional idea of an artistic project its far enough removed and enough mainstream appeal to easily be acceptedby people outside the culture
Lyrics arent that important though, you can be an all time great without them. It depends on the music you make. If carti had substance, his music wouldnt be good because he would sacrifice a lot.

The tradition of trap music and its subject matter has its own seperate history, its a long line tracing back to rejection of this traditional artistic image, the south, etc. But this is knowledge that of course your not even going to acknowledge because you cant go beyond surface level shallow puddle hiphopheads reddit talking points.

they do, all im saying is that they are not as great as the big 3 and they haven’t even matched any of them besides Cole max

and im also saying they probably aren’t beating a lot of older artists on an all time list, like JAY-Z, i don’t really see the controversy here at all

Yeah he is. You place too much importance on whats traditional and older. I dont think anyone would disagree with this actually whos familiar with songwriting and travis' catalogue, his whole thing is crafting great songs and being an all arounder in that aspect
Of course the guy who makes grand loved projects with excellent hooks, instrumentals, collaborations, a lot of excellent structural choices, and beautiful bridges is a better songwriter than f***ing eminem who sure is a good rapper but is literally known by now for f***ing up perfectly great song ideas with horrible beats, terrible hooks, and an aimless direction that has led to him missing the mark on almost everything he put out for the past 10 years like what

nobody lasts this long and is this loved just because of aesthetic. Yall are finding any excuse to dismiss carti just so u dont have to say "I mean yeah, people like the music." You need all these contrived theories, is it not possible people just enjoy the beats and the way he hops on them classic ktt

it is hypocritical, because you can’t disparage and s*** on oldheads for not liking the current state of music because they preferred their music in their time, and then bring up their music that they liked as some sort of gotcha that proves that simplistic music can be evaluated and put on a pedestal like a TPAB

LL Cool J and Sugar Hill etc are considered legends but they are not considered shining examples of the genre in modern-day hip-hop

The Blueprint is literally one of the most iconic albums probably in music history, it definitely has mainstream appeal, you just wanna discredit it because you’re caught up in some corny ass South-New York beef that is ages old, Thug and them didn’t see all of the praise and success because niggas didn’t “understand the culture” they simply didn’t make music that was as good as the other s*** that had already came out by that point and time

This is my 4th time saying i dont care what people prefer or dont like. Pay attention this time.
I didnt say simplistic music i said a lack of emphasis on lyrics
They are considered greats of hip hop, plenty of people have them at the top of their lists, many from that era.
Im not discrediting it. Its great. Its not about a south new york beef. If you don't know what im talking about, go do some research and get out of here, your debating hip-hop without even knowing your history embarassing for your age
