Its a good take OP but drake is still going to come with the hits this summer.

It’s really his lack of peers (outside the other 3-4) that make his run last.

There’s no new amazing s*** that makes him seem outdated. He’s still kinda the guy.

yup cole kinda sits in his pocket. i feel like travis might not go higher than this(even though hes up there in popularity) . And kendrick might go left field on any album so theres no guarantee

    Drakes plateau was in 2016

He has no one to take the throne so to speak so we wont see him fall off in popularity until the next "drake" comes. Kendrick got close but I honestly dont know if he can ever hit that level where he is a stimulus just for being on a track.

He won't, and plus Drake and Kendrick occupy different spaces

Guys like Cole and Kendrick serve the "Real Hip Hop" crowd in a way that is more appealing to Black Youth than most of the Lyrical Rappers that KTT attack.

Drake isn't exactly Real Hip Hop, but he can Rap. He also isn't pure pop or R&B but can make great Pop and R&B.

The best way to describe Drake is the perfect Rap/R&B/Pop hybrid act imo. He covers all bases in a way that most Rappers really arent skilled enough to.

Jay did it when he married Beyonce.

Drake still has room for a whole rebrand

Drake's rebrand happened in 2015 when he shed the simp jokes to get jacked and thrash meek in the beef

    LOL this thread again

Just in time, only 2 months into the new year, to meet the quarterly quota

it didnt plateau after his 2015 run like predicted, he didnt plateau after Views when everyone said he couldnt get bigger and More Life (which wasnt even an album sold less), then scorpion era came and blew Views era out of the water, he has 1 year off cycle and we back at it again

cant wait for this next album to break even more records then scorpion

The problem is also that he has no successor

like Wayne --> Drake or Kanye --> Travis/Big Sean/Chance etc

Eh I still believe he has another gear he can reach popularity wise

  • Feb 24, 2020

not drake fan but they been saying this since 2010

  • Feb 24, 2020

Honestly I want to see him transition into acting and maybe directing. He has nothing left to prove with music.

  • i guess id rather plateau than fall off

He’s still popular, still relevant, still scoring hits, and rap, as it exists now, has been remade in his image, with at least three artists on the Billboard charts making their name out of repurposed bits of his style. But the minute you’ve peaked, rap music starts waiting impatiently for you to disappear.

Many rappers before Drake have faced this moment—T.I. in 2007, Kanye West in 2015—where, as far as their public is concerned, their hero’s story is concluded and they are free to cede the stage.

It’s a difficult corner to fight your way out of: There is no obvious adversary and you are still revered around the world. But all that lavish praise must begin to feel suspiciously like someone throwing your retirement party for you.

i agree but when did jay z peak

  • Feb 25, 2020

    while this is true

he has afforded himself the option to go completely left and reinvent himself by going 10 years with relatively little changes aside from the island/grime s***

he just gotta make sure his batting average stays high and i can see him aging gracefully like hov

The problem is also that he has no successor

like Wayne --> Drake or Kanye --> Travis/Big Sean/Chance etc

this is also another factor, him signing and getting behind someone would be huge

  • Feb 25, 2020

That’s what you clowns said last year and then the year before and then the year before that one and then 2016 before and after Views lmfao
